What a fun train station! knowledgable volunteers, nice exhibits, air conditioned. Windows facing the train tracks so you can watch the trains go by, all for free!

This museum is on the site of the original depot (which burned in 2008) and has been painstakingly and exactingly recreated. This isn't just a dusty collection of stuff from the area. It's filled with items and stories that relate directly to the rail history of the Tehachapi Pass and this depot, in particular. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable and you can take a guided tour or check it out at your own pace. It is situated alongside one of the busiest mainline railroads in the country, so you will usually see a train or two during your visit. There is also a working antique railroad signal display outside.

Was waiting for lunch to be made next door so I went to look at the Railroad displays and got to see a train passing by.

What a great museum with a great history! Many familiar items and many new to me. Great example of what a community can accomplish. Then go see the Loop!

Had a GREAT quick tour our first visit. We came in at almost closing and the decent was so kind to show us around and explain some of the things there. Said we'd return to see more and be able to stay longer!

Outstanding docents. Take your time to learn about the importance of the railway through Tehachapi. It's huge. The museum collection is excellent and lovingly varied throughout the seasons. Lots of great restaurants nearby!

Very interesting small museum right by the railroad on the site of the Tehachapi Depot. Many historical exhibits and friendly volunteers happy to chat to you about the railroad and the area in general.

Let me say that my interest is primarily in the history of Tehachapi. It just happens that it is a railroad town and always has been. This museum celebrates its history and importance to the field of railroad engineering, the community, and transportation industry in general covering the progress and some historic disasters they have experienced including floods in the canyon and a fire that destroyed the depot museum a week before they were scheduled to turn on the fire sprinkler system.
The staff is knowledgeable, committed, and informative with life experiences working on and for the railroad.

In town for the Apple Festival, it would have been nice if this local museum had bothered to stay open for the large number of visitors to this nice festival. At least the grounds were put to good use by a small inflatable entertainment park free to all comers. And tge depot's public toilets were open.

The 5 minute Docent tour lasted almost an hour. Trains travel by frequently. Lots of local and national history.
