Sonoma Barracks were built to house Mexican army troops under the command of General Vallejo. You can see the interior of the barracks and the courtyard. No entrance fee. If you are a California history buff, it might be interesting for you.

Right next to the Mission. Again, full of history on California and the beginning of the US possession of the Western US.

This is a worthwhile visit to relive some of California's history. The kids will enjoy poking around the barracks, while adults will learn a little bit more about the early days of California. Admission is $3, children free. When you are tired of wine tasting stop in for an hour or so - worth it.

I like that this is a self guided tour and free. The exhibits are well thought out and provide a great look back in history. There is a nice gift shop as well.

Something to show the kids in between wine tastings. Has a replica of the original Bear Flag, and recreation of barracks life when Sonoma was the northerly city of Mexico.

Walking distance from the Plaza, it's not big, but the visit was well worthy. It's important to learn and understand the history of California, and it's wonderful to see the California Republic flag in person, not just from a T-shirt.

Wow, we learned so much here! The State of California actually got its start here in Sonoma with the Bear Flag Revolt! The Barracks will teach you a lot so give them a try!

this little garrison only had slightly one 40 soldiers in it's day, but was a big part of California's history. it was here that California came into American possession, and thus began the journey to Modern California. this is a good rainy day stop and I believe worth it.

When you are in Sonoma, it is interesting to visit the barracks, and explore the area around them. We learned a lot about the history of California. Now we understand the bear in the flag, and how California became part of the USA. You can see several exhibits, a short-slide show, and there is a small shop.
