We wandered into this cheese shop. We were hoping to find a particular cheese. They didn’t have it but they had some wonderful aged cheeses which we bought and brought home as they were shrink wrapped for travel. We will enjoy these cheeses. Only suggestion is better package marking of length of time cheese was aged.

Ask how to get there, as it’s a few blocks off the path near the Mission and Vintage House. Small stone historic building that housed first brewery. Try all their cheeses. We like their real sharp cheddar and dry aged Jack. Opens now at 10:00 am

Amazing history place just outside Sonoma on a quiet street. We stopped by and sampled and bought several dry cheeses for our wine picnic. the cheese was better than anticipated- and of course it had won several awards. You could literally feel the history. Great job Vella Cheese!

Finding ourselves in Sonoma with the intent to visit a winery, my wife and I set out from our hotel to find some cheese and crackers to have for lunch at the winery. We were on our way to the Cheese Factory when we happened to stop in at a shop and started a conversation with the owner. She informed us that there were only two places in town to buy cheese made on-site: Epicureans and Vella. Since we were closer to Vella at the time, we took a short stroll two or three blocks from the Plaza. We thought we were lost, since Vella is somewhat hidden amongst what appear to be residences and small farms.
Boy, are we glad we made the effort!! We were able to try any of the cheeses that they make, with a knowledgeable clerk that gave us the flavor (no pun intended) behind each cheese. We wound up buying three of the cheeses (Monterey Jack, Mezzo Secco and Oro Secco) as well as crackers. Prices are outstanding for the freshness and flavor, but our strong recommendation arises from the welcoming and knowledgeable staff.

We had read great reviews about this place but were greatly disappointed. When we entered the shop, no one greeted us, no one offered us samples, we were basically ignored and ended up leaving without tasting any cheese or buying. We arrived at 9:30, first thing in the morning, and the staff all seemed to be busy getting ready for the day and no one helped us, so we waited about five minutes and walked out.

If you like good cheese then this is the place for you! Vella Cheese Company offers samples of all of their MANY cheeses as well as a wholesale price compared to your local grocery. These cheeses have unbelievable flavor and come in an incredible array of styles. We highly recommend Vella Cheese Company!

Very friendly staff, great cheese and the first solar powered business in Sonoma Valley! I enjoyed the dry jack, sharp cheddar and mezzo secco cheeses. Great place to stop in and buy cheese for an enhanced wine tasting experience.

Had an excellent time dropping in at the Vella cheese company. The staff were extremely nice and you can sample any of the cheeses that they produce. Definitely try the dry jack when you visit, a unique and delicious cheese. Prices seemed extremely reasonable and the staff were willing to cut smaller slices to purchase if the items pre-cut were too big. Will definitely visit again next time I am in Sonoma
