We made the drive from Fairfield, and the views are beautiful. However, the traffic on Highway 12 was awful. We did not expect all those trucks barreling by. They had to widen that road as there was just too much traffic, but where before, it...More

The Sonoma Valley wine trail follows Highway 12 through southern Sonoma county in CA. It has a large number of very good wineries to visit with tasting prices generally lower than those at the Napa Valley wineries. In Napa the price for a tasting is...More

When you get tired of eating the incredible sushi in the city, venture out to the scenic valley of wine and sun for a great time.

Not too far from our San Francisco base. We're not wine drinkers, but we'd heard this was worth the drive to see. It's amazing to see such beautiful scenery on the way to Sonoma. Lots of green rolling hills dotted with grape vines of all...More

This is a beautiful area with mountains and valleys of vineyards as far as you can see. You can visit the vineyards independently but I recommend a tour for part of your visit to the area. Tour guides offer helpful information about the area and...More

We spent 3 nites in beautiful Sonoma, had perfect weather and visited wonderful wineries. I can't wait to do it again and add Napa to the visit. It's great that it is really not too far from SFO so visitors to SFO should definitely head...More

We prefer Sonoma to Napa and visited again when last in the SF area. Wonderful wine tastings, fabulous restaurants, friendly and helpful locals - we could not have asked for more.

Take your time, and stop frequently when you see a nice spot. And frequently you will stop, as there is an abundance of places & wineries to visit.

We stayed in an Airbnb just outside the city. Beautiful view of the valley and vineyard next door. Local host with good suggestions for the area. Quiet relaxing option

My husband and I will be traveling to the wine country in May for our anniversary. We will have 3 day and 3 nights. we are looking for easy going area that is centrally located so easy to get to wineries during the day, walk to dinner at night, relaxing not super crowded. this will be our first trip here so I have no idea where to go/stay. any recommendations would be helpful. right now I don't even know where to stare.

I definitely recommend the Sonoma area rather that Napa which is just too busy. I can't help with hotels, but Trip Advisor has many suggestions.

We are heading to Sonoma Valley in October. Looking for suggestions for hotels and wine tours or some type of local transportation to the wineries. Working with a tight budget. Any suggestions?
