Spoiler alert! The only remaining operational gold mill in the world. It's living history in action twice daily in the beautiful Sierra's of California. We had a great grad student giving us a tour while overhead in the mill lived an endangered species of bats. To see this incredible piece of machinery and the amount of time and effort to... More

This is a great facility to take young school kids to. The docent loves giving the kids a list of item to go find inside the main museum. The kids love it walking around trying to find each item. Very clean facility that is filled with enormous amount of history and the way it was to do mining.

Can't say enough positive things. A trip back in time when miners risked their lives to mine gold. I appreciated the fact that everything we saw was real. The immense scale of the ore processing equipment, which still is in operating condition, speaks for itself. Our tour guide was very informative and the museum full of artifacts.

On our way back from a hike, we stopped at the museum 10 minutes before they closed. They let us peruse the museum and property well after they're posted hours. Oh, it only cost $1 for adults!

This mine is only one in the world with intact gold mining tunnels, equipment, and artifacts in place and working for demonstrations. Large colony of large ear bats are protected in residence. 1 1/2 tour was hands on and great for kids. Highly recommended.

We took the entire tour. What a great place! My family has history in the area, but I still learned a lot. The docent that lead the tour was not only very informative, but had some great stories about the old times. The stamp mill was so interesting. You really understand why mining was such a dangerous job. At the... More

Very good museum and Mine Exibit that showcases mining in the Sierra Nevadas'. The Stamping Mill is the Centerpeice of the exibit. The tour will take you thru a miners cabin, The Kentucky Mine Portal (unfortunately the mine has collapsed just inside the portal) and the Stamping Mill. Very good tour to learn about the difficulty of Gold Mining and... More

We attended a wedding reception here. Tree shaded area that was perfect for the meal set up. Museum, historic backdrop with many relics from the mining days and a wonderful amphitheater for music an dancing. Close enough to town for walking or a shuttle.

Take a mine tour and get an idea of the history of the area's mines. There were so many mines that on the days the stamp mills closed it was so quiet it drove people crazy. This tour taught me a lot about hard rock mining. You will enjoy it and they are usually very small groups.
