I have been to every major city in the US and have seen a lot in the inner city areas, however, I was not prepared or expecting what we just experienced in the downtown area of Santa Cruz. Yes, there is a terrible homeless problem,...More

We found a couple really nice shops and the building are really pretty but there is wall to wall homelessness on the streets! I'm not sure if this is new or the city is not offering support or other options, but it was really shocking...More

You have the homeless people and panhandlers. The place does have interesting shops but you need to put up with not so ideal atmosphere. Today, I had to go down there and it has not changed a bit.

I'm a local and I love downtown Santa Cruz. There are lots of great shops, places to eat and things to do. I'm not a fan of big malls and really like that there are so many family owned businesses downtown that have everything I...More

I've lived in this town my entire life and raised 2 children here. This are has become a drug addicts haven. The county gives out free needles to junkies (not exchange) and they leave them all over the streets and beaches. The shops down here...More

This is what "Downtown" used to be like in the US. A little bit of everything. Inexpensive to pricey. Friendly people everywhere. Lots of homeless, but they are cleaner and more polite than I am used to. Plenty of parking. Places to sit along the...More

Love spending a few hours here, shopping for a few good finds, eating vegan at Cafe Gratitude, and stopping in for a massage at Well Within Spa.

This isn't what you'd typically consider a mall. It's actually several blocks of Pacific Avenue that is a fun place to spend a few hours while in Santa Cruz. There's a good assortment of stores including some chains such as Forever 21 and Urban Outfitters,...More

In spite of a drizzly day in December, it was a good adventure. We strolled up and down the Pacific garden Mall, checking out shoe stores and antique stores and some clothing stores and a Hat store. Even with the weather it was still busy,...More

Considering the tragic devastation caused by the Loma Prieta earthquake in 1989 where SO MUCH of this mall had to be removed and rebuilt - it is the absolute truth that there is a VERY low vacancy rate of the storefronts - and nothing that...More
