Check out the Moreton Bay Fig, just catty-corner to the train station. A beautiful tree, and true monument to women botanists in early twentieth-century California.

This tree is gorgeous and a short walk from State Street or the beach. It's a nice little diversion from the main attractions. I spent about 5-10 minutes gazing at the tree and reading the little plaques.

This massive tree is a little hard to find (just west of the downtown railway station on a dead-end street), but it's well worth the diversion. It's seen a lots of years, and has a very interesting history, which is provided on plaques surrounding it....More
