Having only one day to tour Santa Barbara we chose the Old Mission as one of our stops and we a glad we did. So much of the history of not only Santa Barbara but of the settlement of California is shown here. The old Mission was being prepared for Good Friday service which to me added a cool element... Self-guided tour was very nice. I found the courtyard especially interesting, with the tombstones of people associated with the mission. The chapel was beautiful.

We grabbed a short time in the morning to go by the Mission. The grounds are beautiful and the Mission is amazing. The view from the steps of the bay is spectacular!

Always a treat to visit this historic and beautiful Mission! It can as little as 15 - 20 minutes or linger for longer while taking photos of the Mission and the grounds (including a lovely fountain).

There is an expansive lawn for walking, playing and picnic-ing, and so many families out enjoying the day. Tours of... More

We combined a visit to the old Mission with a visit to the nearby Botanic Garden. Both can easily be done in a relaxing day. The Mission is a good history lesson of the Santa Barbara area. It's presented well but is best suited to older children and adults. We saw quite a few bored little ones.

I really love this Mission because my children learned about it in school. I became interested in visiting it in person and it was amazing. The day I went we saw a wedding, too. I really recommend people to go visit this Mission.
