We took a quick tour of this place as we had some downtime before a wedding. I learned that this is the old mission continuously run by the Franciscans since 1786. It was worth wild seeing the old spanish architecture and artifact.

The opportunity of taking the self-guided tour through this mission should not be missed. The gardens offer a contrast of blossoming cacti with other plants including an ancient fig tree. The rooms offer examples of art and life in the original mission. One of the...More

Tastefully done museum. The gardens and cemetery were lovely, quiet, and peaceful. It's wonderful piece of California history.

Every age group can enjoy this mission. There's a large church and a smaller chapel. Also on-site, the grave of the Native American girl (true story) in Island of the Blue Dolphins, along with others in a small, pretty cemetery and gardens. Very nice gift...More

The Mission is decent enough to check out. You will end up there without fail. Up to the person to pay for entrance if that is your desire. We skipped on that. Nice for photo's.

I love this mission and the church/ cemetery next to it. You get a good idea of the life in that century.

This location is so historic for the history of Santa Barbara, the conquest of the Channel Islands and the Catholic Church as the first European residents. I always light a candle for the Saint of Santa Barbara and hope for peace.

We were on a short stay in SB and not been before. We had been told the Old Mission was worth a look, so we did. Being British the 4 mile walk from our hotel didn't phase us and gave us the opportunity to wander...More

I didn't see any dogs while we were there. Probably allowed outside on leashes but no real walking areas of grass.

It was first built in 1786 but rebuilt after earthqaukes around 1812. It was rebuilt again after an earthquake in 1920.
