Overview
More
We're not your typical structured museum with stiff curators, cold halls, and strict rules. We like to go outside and get our hands dirty, pick things up and take a closer look, laugh, skip, or maybe even jump for joy. Because learning is messy and we all learn by doing, not sitting. That's why we offer a different approach to discovering the natural world: one where you're free to wander, ask "silly" questions, and explore on your own terms. And when you come here you'll see we're a museum unlike anything else. In a nutshell, we're naturally different.

We came primarily to see the top 50 photos from National Geographic. It was well worth the visit for that alone - the pictures were stunning as well as the “behind-the-picture” blurbs they gave about each photo and how it came about. The wildlife exhibits...More

Had some free time during Fiesta week, paid the museum a visit. Senior discount for a nice little museum. Exhibits on pygmy mammoths (who knew?), Chumash Indians, fish and wildlife. One hall for "exploration" with some hands-on experiences for the kits. Worth an hour or...More

Okay, I'm biased! My uncles collected all the birds and mammals that are displayed in the Museum. Look for the mounted rattlesnake just inside the museum. My uncle made it and it's been delighting people since the late 40s.

There is an extensive collection of birds and eggs from California. The model of the blue whale outside was amazing.

Most awesome exhibit of National Geographic photographs from around the world. All the exhibits were so detailed and gave you the feeling that you were right there in the natural habitat.

This museum is such a great place to visit in Santa Barbara, especially for families with children. There are so many things for children to do here, both at the museum itself and also at the Sea Center down on Stearns Wharf - when you...More

This is a great museum. I love the bird exhibit with birds and eggs in the nest. The paintings in the dioramas are excellent.

This is a great museum for a small city. Wish I had more time to spend there. The collections include some interesting mammal, fish and bird collections (including a huge whale skeleton outside the building). The archeology section draws from the region and is very...More
