Overview
More
We're not your typical structured museum with stiff curators, cold halls, and strict rules. We like to go outside and get our hands dirty, pick things up and take a closer look, laugh, skip, or maybe even jump for joy. Because learning is messy and we all learn by doing, not sitting. That's why we offer a different approach to discovering the natural world: one where you're free to wander, ask "silly" questions, and explore on your own terms. And when you come here you'll see we're a museum unlike anything else. In a nutshell, we're naturally different.

This is a great museum for a small city. Wish I had more time to spend there. The collections include some interesting mammal, fish and bird collections (including a huge whale skeleton outside the building). The archeology section draws from the region and is very...More

The buildings are old but the museum is getting some much needed renovation. The exhibits and the gardens are more than we expected for a small community museum. The exhibits included Chumash history; a hands-on exhibit area for children; marine life displays; local geology exhibits;...More

This museum is considered a treasure in Santa Barbara. Has in-depth exhibits of birds, their eggs, marine life, Native American art etc.in a beautiful old Santa Barbara style building & garden. Great place to visit for all ages.

Love the starfish and getting to see things up close. The jellyfish are amazing and learned more about them while we were there. Worth seeing wit hor without kids.

The grounds are lovely, with a creek flowing by, on the back side, we attended a wedding there and it was just brilliant, outdoors, under the oak trees, perfect, followed by a delight dinner and reception indoors. They also have a variety of displays happening...More

This museum is over 100 years old, but is up to date. They are going through a major renovation right now, which is to be completed next spring. It's still worth going to now. They have many kid-friendly exhibits and a state of the art...More

We were greeted by a very nice lady at the front counter where you paid your admission fee. She gave us a brief overview of the museum. That was a nice welcome! It's very small. You can spend about 30-45 minutes here and that would...More

Lots to see. I'm not always a big fan of dead things in cases (and there's a lot of this) but there's variety and a massive blue whale skeleton! Good to get a combined ticket with the the sea centre on the wharf.

We just went and realized a lot of galleries are closed. Call before you go and use groupon for tickets, $12 for two. If buying tickets at the counter, it's $12 per person. Overall, it's a small cute well-maintained museum. A volunteer/ an instructor, Glenn,...More
