We were able to pull over, park for free and explore for a half hour on the way to Hearst Castle. There were tons of cool rocks to pick up, throw in the ocean and climb on. Take a jacket! It was windy but wonderful!

A very picturesque beach with nice walkways. There are wooden walkways with benches at regular intervals and the area is very pet friendly.

Walking paths are elevated wooden paths along the cliffs of Moonstone Beach. Beach is accessible by stairs - not handicapped accessible in places, but the wooden pathways are ample for wheelchairs, walkers and scooters. Squirrels run up and down along the walkways begging for treats,...More

I would guess that Bruce is probably correct. I actually quit hunting the stones quite some time ago and go down now just to be at water's edge where I have enjoyed this area for so long. Have fun.

I've never seen glass stones on the beach, but I've seen round tumbled-type stones at the very most north end. Follow the boardwalk north, it will end very close to a cement boat ramp. At the bottom of the boat ramp, you can... More

I don't think you'd want to do that at right at Moonstone Beach. There is pretty high currents and undertow around the very rocky shoreline. Go a couple miles north to the beach located right by the Cavalier hotel. They... More
