We were able to pull over, park for free and explore for a half hour on the way to Hearst Castle. There were tons of cool rocks to pick up, throw in the ocean and climb on. Take a jacket! It was windy but wonderful!

A very picturesque beach with nice walkways. There are wooden walkways with benches at regular intervals and the area is very pet friendly.

I would guess that Bruce is probably correct. I actually quit hunting the stones quite some time ago and go down now just to be at water's edge where I have enjoyed this area for so long. Have fun.

I don't think you'd want to do that at right at Moonstone Beach. There is pretty high currents and undertow around the very rocky shoreline. Go a couple miles north to the beach located right by the Cavalier hotel. They... More
