We loved our stay here at the San Simeon Creek Campground. While it is right off the highway you do not need to cross over it to reach the beach as there is an under pass which takes you from the campground to the beach....More

Brought our granddaughters ages 8 & 12 to test out our camper. Big success. Easy walk down to the beach first afternoon, great rock hunting, photo opportunities. Beach was pretty windy and the water, not inviting but good for exploring - watch your step if...More

close by to hotels/motels...I love walking the trail in this park! it's peaceful and there's always a nice breeze coming in from the ocean..there's also a couple of preserves close by that provides additional opportunities to see wildlife and photo ops!!!

The park is wonderful place to experience the wild central coast. Within and nearby the campgrounds there are pleasant hiking trails that will take you to the beach or into a pine forest. The town of Cambria is nearby and offers numerous dining options should...More

San Simeon Creek campground has running water while Washburn does not. San Simeon has lots of trees which is nice in the summer. Washburn is very open and no running water. A bit expensive for just boondocking. Reserve online to get the spot you want.

perfect stop for Hearst Castle and at the same time enjoy a fabulous beach walk. Friendly staff. Reasonable price. We stopped in without a reservation in early April, however in summer a reservation is suggested.

The drive on Hwy 1 never fails to offer something new & scenic. San Simeon & the area approaching Hearst Castle is especially scenic, and well worth the trip.

Hit a few walking paths with dog and each time had to pick ticks off myself and pet this weekend. Harmony trailhead was the worst

San Simeon state park campground is suffering at the edges with obvious deferred maintenance and no reinvestment of visitor fees. Campground sites are closed off and unusable, toilets have been closed and PortaJohns installed, amphitheater is overrun with weeds, grass not cut, trees need trimming,...More

Just received this question, too late, I'm afraid to perhaps help but, I do not think you need reservations. We did not have any, and we were fine. Can always phone ahead to be sure there isn't something going on the... More
