Alum Rock Park is a fun place to visit. Located in the foothills, it has many places to visit. Also good for hiking. The Nature Center is a good place to take young (and not so young) children.

I was looking forward to having a quick stroll in the park but the roads through the park area were inexplicably closed and so I just had a walk around the lower edges of the park. Next time I'll leave more time to hike up.

This is a lovely park for a couple of hours or an afternoon. The paths are nicely maintained, and easy to follow. We wandered among the trees along the creek, past the Youth Science Institute, and discovered some of the stone grottos where natural springs were captured for the health spa that was used until 1927. Trails on the ridge... More

Regular spot for a hike / walk. Interesting nature center with some owls to visit, maybe a stuffed bobcat or two.

Hiking trails for all ability levels. My favorite hike is the Boccardo Trail that takes you to the top of the mountain. It takes about 2 hours round trip, but you get a real good work out. Alum Rock Park is a great place to go hiking with friends and you feel like you are a long ways away from... More

This park is local to me, and the place I go for a quick ride. As soon as I enter the park I am calmed by its atmosphere, which is very laid pack and quiet. It's a few miles up the road to the last parking lot, and I ride all the way up to the picnic tables at the... More

Nice park in the East Hills overlooking Silicon Valley. A variety of trails of differing length and difficulty. Suitable for walking, cycling and horse-riding. Free parking at the bottom and paying parking further up. Closed on Mondays. No dogs allowed in the park. Download and print a map of the park website for trail details.

If you've never been to Alum Rock Park -- DO IT! Even if you're a Santa Cruz Mountain snob -- these hills and trails (while a bit drier and different vegetation) will not disappoint you. Newly made free parking in the first few lots too! Be sure to check out the sulfer springs, and hike all the way to the... More

The front end of the park has the remains of the old public bath house, the hot springs and waters that supplied it are further in the park, and the hillsides get very steep very fast. so one can select the difficulty of ones hike.

Alum Rock Park used to be some kind of big time attraction - 100 years ago. Now it's a park in the San Jose foothills that is typically quite hot and dusty. Nice playground in the park, but it gets really crowded on the weekends. The nature center does do some nice trips for schools.
