Price is a little steep ($12.95 adult). I feel like you need to know or remember story lines of Steinbecks popular titles to fully appreciate. There is overview synopsis of all his major titles. Took us an hour to fully tour and read everything.

For this Steinbeck lover, it was a religious experience driving through his beloved Salinas Valley, and into his home town. The museum is a bit dated, but the videos are informative and the dioramas representing each book are fun. The museum store has everything--from his...More

We had foreign visitors who were familiar with John Steinbeck's writings so we decided to go to the center on the way to Monterey/Carmel. What a wonderful find it was! We spent a little more than an hour at the center which is in a...More

The museum is good for all ages. It's a highlight when in Salinas. Small children will enjoy the cannery row exhibit where citizens actually slept 80+ years ago (read Steinbeck's Cannery Row or see the movie); and if you read Travels with Charley, the truck...More

On a sunny Spring Saturday, we had the place mostly to ourselves. The museum is laid-out to trace the chronology of his major works, but I was most impressed with the displays of other parts of Steinbeck's life. His articles written as a war correspondent...More

Excellect interactive displays, narratives, and great visuals bring Steinbecks literary work to life. Videos, audio recordings, and artifacts tell the story of rural and migrant life in the Salinas Valley, on Monterey's Cannery Row, and well beyond California in the 1930s and 1940s.

Very well done museum that's interactive and information in a very fun way! Would be good for children as well! After 4:30 it is free but you'll need 1.5 hours to truly go through everything

Had a short visit to the centre which is well presented. You would really need to be familiar with Steinbeck's books and writings to get the most out of it - so avid Steinbeck fans will enjoy it very much. It is 30 years since...More

We spent about three hours in this museum dedicated to Salinas' most famous son. Not only did we learn a huge amount about John Steinbeck's life and work, but we also got a very good insight into the history of the farming industry in the...More

I don't believe so. You could call and find out. It is self guided and there are many movie clips so I don't think it would be possible. It's not large enough for a docent tour. Read all of your Steinbeck books before you go!
