This was the home of Leland Stanford, a pivotal person in the transcontinental railroad story as well as governor of California and founder of Stanford University (in his son's honor). Our docent was awesome. The tour includes most of the important rooms in the home....More

Thoroughly enjoyed our visit and tour. Be forewarned you aren't allowed to take photos or touch anything, Not recommended for children under 10. Our 10 year olds were bored to tears.

Even though the entry way/stairs were under repair when we visited, it is a great tour through the house. Kent was a fabulous guide on our 1 hour tour. The rooms are in spectacular condition. Look out for the posh lace curtains and the fabulous...More

This was an absolutely fascinating tour. My younger kids were bored out of their mind (8 & 10) but the older ones did ok. The tour is free and runs just about an hour. The small garden on the site is beautiful as the house...More

Leland Stafford's house was totally redone in order to replicate exactly what the original structure looked like. Black and white photos and written documentation was sent to the weavers so they could get an exact match of the carpet, for example. There is perfect detailing...More

I was just killing some time on a Sunday and luckily I walked in right as a tour was just getting started. Folks this is a FREE tour but it shows like an expensive one. I highly recommend.

Its always fun touring a historic house and this one has a very interesting history. Although much of it has been altered due to it's different uses through the years.

My family and I definitely felt that it was worth seeing this part of history showing early California artwork and the architecture of the home. Hearing the information about Leland Stanford was very interesting.

Beautifully restored mansion, seen only on the hour with a guide. The guide was very knowledgeable and engaging. The visitor center has many well done exhibits and an adjacent gift shop. We had to wait 50 minutes for the next tour, which meant we missed...More

What’s not to love about this landmark & historical site. The tour is free and the story of the Stanford’s, their community ties and the history woven into their residency is pretty awesome. We had a great tour guide and learned some things we didn’t...More
