Based on the photos took by two photographers from 1968 to 1972, they restored the house to look like it was back then. It wasn't allowed to take photos inside so be prepared to absorb all the history by your eyes and mind. Thanks to...More

Our group visited in June and was really impressed with the docent's knowledge of the Stanford Mansion, its history, and its contents. We were amazed at the opulent features. Oh, to be rich and named Stanford!

Free and very informative, this Mansion tour is well worth your time. Our guide, Mario, was wonderful, and showed us the house as well as telling us all about the family and their lives. Highly recommend a stop here.

We stopped in the Mansion and really enjoyed our brief tour. Standouts were the building itself, its history as a childrens' home.

We went here on a whim at the end of a long day of museums and walking around, and what a pleasure. Richard was our tour guide, and he made the place come alive. Nothing about his presentation was canned or stilted. The mansion itself...More

We were here for a baseball tournament and had an afternoon free. Nice and cool inside and just waited a few minutes for the hourly tour. Good displays in the small museum and then a walking tour with a knowledgeable guide. The house has gone...More

I brought my visiting family to tour this beautiful building (I've lived in Sacramento many years and have never visited!) and I wish we had a better experience. The interior and exterior were beautiful (the rooms: wow!) and I'm very interested in early California history...More

Open Sundays--except Thanksgiving, Christmas & New Year's Day. Good idea to call the Visitor Center the day before your visit 916.324.9266 and check if there are any ceremonial events which might limit visitation--but those... More

The tour was free. I did drop a few bucks into the donation box, however.
