The loop around Lake Natoma is over 20 miles; however, you can ride only as far as you want to and then return. There are multiple points where you start your ride. With younger kids it's good to know where the flat terrain is. For...More

I try to find places where I can get in 30 to 40 miles without a lot of stopping. Since I am typically by myself, I prefer to find trails like this where I feel safe. I love riding on the road, but prefer it...More

River's edge bike trail. Very smooth pavement that is wide enough for walkers and bikers. Mostly flat trail with slight inclines however no steep hills. The trail is lined with many trees that provide shade on parts of the trail. The trail also can accommodate...More

Not now, not alone. It's very far & the weather is rotten now, the river is raging & too high to be safe! Wait until Spring, go with friends, a charged cell phone & dog! It's very beautiful. But, due to circumstances... More

We will be riding the American River Bicycle Trail during the third week in March. Are there restaurants or cafes about halfway down the trail where we can stop for lunch or a coffee, or should we plan on bringing food for a picnic? We will be traveling, so a restaurant meal would be easier.

BTW, the person who said Old Sacramento is the halfway point was incorrect - Old Sac is at the start of the 31 mile trail close to mile marker 1 or 2.
