If you ride along the river, be prepared to see "tent city" where numerous homeless people live. It is heartbreaking.

One of the great joys is that getting back to nature is so easy. We always take friends on bike trail to see river & often sight river otters. How fun they are to watch. We get on trail in Old Sacto if were doing short ride with friends Visitors can rent bikes in Old Sac and ride however far... More

There is room for everyone - if you obey the simple posted rules of the road. I saw bikes, seated bikes, unicycle, tandem bikes, strollers, dog walkers, race walkers runners ... all ages. These trails are well maintained, and many sections include strategically placed picnic tables and parking. Bring water, a hat, and sunscreen, though many sections are shady.

Awesome place to run, especially off pavement on the paths through the trees. Forget I am in Sacramento. Just watch it after a storm. Paths can be blocked and tripping obstacles abound.

I ride my road bike on this trail from Sacramento to Folsom every weekend. There are restrooms and water fountains along the way, lots of wildlife and great views of the American river.

Going for a bike ride is one great outdoor activity that my family enjoys. The American River Bicycle Trail is the best bicycle trail that we've gone through. It is a bit longer but more enjoyable.

Stretching for miles, this is the best bike trails in the area. Flat, hilly, along the river, in the trees, so much to see

One of the gems of the Sacramento Region is the American River Bike Trail. While it's a bike trail, there are often more walkers than bikers. Every day is another photo opportunity, the trails are well kept, and wild flowers, fish, and wild life abound! Deer, coyotes, turkeys, salmon, hawk, owls, as well as the occasional bald eagle. Poppies, lupine,... More

Sacramentano are lucky that we've preserved most of our river front for recreational activities. Any biker can appreciate how serene and easy it is to travel between east and west for a good stretch extending from downtown sac all the way to Folsom. Even if you're not commuting on your bike, this provides a great backdrop for your workout or... More

This was a great find. Just a short distance from the cluster of hotels it provided a great stretch after a day in the car. Straddling the Sacramento River it meanders along the river intersecting several small rest sites and park areas. On this trip evidence of the recent floods was very clear. You can continue the ride to Old... More
