I live very near the American River Parkway, and have the distinct privilege to visit almost daily. I constantly marvel at the forethought shown back in the 1960's (I think) to save for posterity the area on either side of the American River as it...More

The parkway along the American River runs from downtown all the way to Folsom Lake, 30 miles away. The bike trail is totally safe, off-road from the traffic where you can ride along the river and through several parks. There are also many walking trails...More

The American River parkway (a.k.a. the American River Bike Trail) is a serene, quiet place to unwind and get in a little exercise. Whether you're walking, jogging or riding your bike, it is very beautiful and one of our fair city's gems. My only caution...More

I ride my bike on this parkway 3-4 times/week even in the winter. It is a wonderful, well-maintained place to exercise. The only times I have felt slightly unsafe is in the area near Discovery Park. There are homeless camps in that area along the...More

I think this is the best, unusual, thing about Sacramento. Within feet of the busy city there are 30+ miles of green space with turkeys, deer, Coyotes, rattle snakes (sorry), salmon in season and NO CARS. You can run, walk, cycle, fish, etc

ARP is a paved trail that almost always has a view of the American River. The view is lovely! When the weather is good, it can get very crowded, so one must be alert for speeding cyclists. I would have given the American River Parkway...More

We are coming for one night to Sacramento and were hoping to tube down the river. We think we will arrive around noon, but probably won't get in the river until around 2:00. We were hoping to float for about 2 hours, we have two children (11 & 8) and don't think they will last much longer. Are there places to launch and exit within that time frame? Also, is there some sort of transportation back to our car? We only have 1 vehicle. Thanks for any help.

I see people rafting but usually on big rafts they rent. Only transportation I know of to take you point to point are taxis. But I've only ridden my bike there.
