This mansion was used by many of the previous Governors of California. It has historical interest. I think there is a new mansion someplace else but not sure.

As of late-2015, the Historic Governor's Mansion of California in Sacramento resumed its duty as an official residence of the state's Governor. Since then, it is (unfortunately) closed to the public. Therefore, there is generally nothing you can do around this impressive-looking mansion. Here is...More

This is a very large period building. Unsure of the claimed architectural style but it looks ornate and deliberately complicated so was built to impress. However, the location as it is today seems unlikely so there is surely some history to explain it.

This famous landmark housed the different governors of California, but not all of them. The rumor is that it is haunted and does not want its story told. There are 30 rooms in the building. There were reports of paranormal activities. Governor George Pardee was...More

We were only able to see the outside of this mansion and it was quite impressive, well-kept and unfortunately located at a corner so it was hard to see from the car. Would love to come back when they give tours to the public.

The mansion has been restored to its original grandeur but, as the governor is in residence, there are no public tours. Definitely walk by it to enjoy the exterior architecture and the grounds.

I had a private tour a year ago, as no one else was waiting. I don't think tours are going on now as they are renovating for Brown to move in for his final years as Governor. It was last live in by the Regan's,...More

The Governor's Mansion and grounds in Sacramento are very, very beautiful. The parking is often hard to find so give yourself time to drive around to find parking. Spend some time admiring all there is to see. It's really worth the time and the trip.

Full Disclaimer, I know some of the people responsible for the renovation and had access to the building that most people wouldn't get... Having said that, it is beautiful building, that was just renovated and re-occupied by the governor of California, Jerry Brown and his...More

California governor’s mansion is sited near streets classic 1930-50 well maintained homes. It does not look like a place Arnold Schwarzenegger would have lived when he was governor and it wasn’t he lived in a pen-house in Los Angeles and flew in each morning.

Please check their website. There should also be a phone number. I believe they take reservations, but when I was there, they also take walk-ins. The walk-ins will wait until the next available tour if the current one(s... More
