We love taking our family visitors to this railroad museum. Sometimes we also go just as locals when they have model train exhibits for example around Christmas. Try to fit in the train ride too if you can.

I'm not at big railroad fan, but the museum does a great jot of tying the railroad in with local and national history. Loved it. Make sure you get the guided tour, it put icing on the cake.

Recently visited with my sister and her 5 year old grandson. All of the trains are very interesting and some you can walk through and experience them as they were 100 years ago. I loved the historic anecdotes from the docents and it’s a good...More

Can you make review about a train museum seem exciting? Maybe not, but this is one of the cleanest and well developed museums in Northern California. It is really more of a history museum, as Sacramento was the center of transportation during the Gold Rush...More

This is the best place to take visitors from out of town, especially if they have young children. Highly recommend it. Enjoy Old Sac while you are there.

I really didn't care much for Old Sacramento as a whole, but I very much liked the railroad museum. What this museum really does is trace the history of California, using the railroad as a common theme to tie things together. It's fascinating for visitors...More

After taking 3 hour Amtrack San Joaquin ride to Old Town Sacramento we visited the museum and it never disappoints. The trains are massive. The staff are friendly and it's really interesting to walk through some of the cars to relive a bit of history...More

This place is interesting, but I could only stay for an hour. I like history and think trains are fine, but not an all day visit for me.

I like California State Railroad Museum in several different aspects. First of all, there are trains of old and new styles. There were trains which I could get on and experience "the ride." What I like the most is historical part. It's very detail about...More

Best selection of Southern Pacific steam locomotives that I've ever seen. They have a couple very rare " Giants of the Past" items. WELL worth the time and energy to look it over.
