This is one of the most fantastic museums on the history of the telephone in small town America. The docents are extremely knowledgeable as they have all worked out in the field installing and maintaining the phone systems is Roseville. For those who are interested in learning about how the phone systems worked from the very early manually connected systems to the electro-mechanical switching systems that were used for most of the 20th century, this is the place to go. They have a great selection of old hardware - everything from what was in one's home to the equipment in the central office. Loved it.

The Roseville Telephone Museum is open to the public by appointment only. This four-gallery museum provides a chronological visual history of the telephone from Alexander Graham Bell to the present. The display cases contain original telephones or replica copies of nearly every telephone sold or used in America, as well as some telephones used in other countries. There is the local telephone company's original plug-in switchboard, which still works, and visual displays -- such as a cross-section of an underground telephone vault -- which show how the telecommunications industry has changed in the past 120 years. This is a fascinating museum and well worth the hour or two needed to walk slowly through the galleries with your museum tour guide. My wife arranged a private tour for her 95-year old father, who worked decades for General Telephone in Southern California. He entertained our museum tour guide with stories of his experiences during the industry's transition to dial telephones. (Call 916-786-1621 to make an appointment.)

This museum is packed with antique telephones, switchboards and communication memorabilia. We talked to several of the volunteers who were helpful in explaining, not just the history of the museum, but also how much of the equipment worked. Two we met were retired telephone employees who were able to share personal experiences. Seeing how much labor was involved in laying old telephone lines made us appreciate the ease of fiber optics. Open the 1st Saturday of each month 10 AM- 2 PM. Check for any changes due to holidays. A good stop for adults and children who may not have seen old phones before. No admission fee but please consider a donation to support this great museum.

My nephew (deceased) has his Insulator collection displayed there.
Haven't visited there recently, so I just left the current date.

Great small, local museum that covers the history of Roseville as told by what was the local telephone company. Docent that gave me a tour was very knowledgeable about both the early history of telephones and the local community. Both grew together.

This is one of the coolest small museums you will ever find. Unfortunately it is only open the first Saturday of each month--as totally manned by volunteers. But if you happen to be in the area at that time--then go!! You will not be disappointed. The docents are fantastic in explaining everything and I have never seen so many phones from across the ages in one place. Many will bring back memories!! In my opinion a "Must See" if you are in Roseville area on the first Saturday!

Our visit to this museum was quite a surprise. It covers telephone usage through the years. All the types of phones are displayed. There are phone booths, full displays, good signage. It is educational as well as nostalgic, to see the phones that grandpappy used. Plan a visit but check on hours as they vary. Admission is a bargain: FREE!

They’ve packed quite a bit of history into this little museum. We were able to teach the kids how to dial a rotary phone and see how the old switchboards used to work. Little gem right there.

What a nice museum! Every phone you can think of is here. Volunteers are great and very knowledgeable and took the time to talk about how the switch boards work and even how they used to trace a call. And best of all it’s free! Just give a donation. They are only open the first Saturday of each month so be sure to schedule a visit and enjoy.
