If you have any interest in petroglyphs, a visit to Little Petroglyph Canyon should be at the top of your list. Protected by the U.S. Navy since 1943, these undisturbed ancient writings appear as they did as many as 13,000 years ago. Begin by contacting Maturango Museum who works with the Navy in arranging access to the military ranges that... More

It was a wonderful experience that I will never forget. We went on the accompanied tour and had very good guides that shared much information about the petroglyphs. It was a tour for only people Not limited by physical ability. I saw several people on the tour that should have not been allowed to go due to their physical limitations.... More

If you can get a reservation on one of the Maturango Museum tours to Little Petroglyph Canyon do so, you won't regret the or the drive to Ridgecrest. This is one of the best, if not the best preserved collections of Native American Rock Art in the U.S. It's remote, deep within a Navy base, and well protected by both... More

This is an outstanding "bucket list" experience. More of a medium-level hike than a walking tour. There are some tricky places in the canyon where you scramble a bit. You need to be fairly fit to fully enjoy the experience especially for seniors like me. A hiking staff / pole was very helpful moving over the varied / uneven terrain.... More

I have been on this tour and hike several times, in late Spring and Fall. It's a remote and interesting driving trip and a nice day of exercise which takes you back thousands of years, trying to imagine what made the natives such prolific rock drawers in this particular canyon. Best access in November during the Ridgecrest Petroglyph Festival when... More

Once in a lifetime experience. Should do it if you are a US Citizen. Protected by NAWS, they are in pristine condition.

A bit of a trip from the starting point in Ridgecrest. Once you get out to actual art location it was a fun experience seeing all the art.

I've been visiting and leading tours to this Petroglyph Canyon sense a year after 9/11. I've photographed hundreds of rock art sites around the country & Canada, but this is the ultimate one. Wonderful unique images and a huge quantity of them in this 3 mile Canyon. If you're at all interested in Rock Art, this is a must!

There are so many wonderful petroglyphs that it is almost overwhelming. The ride to the petroglyphs is through an amazing Joshua Tree forest. Must register in advance for the tour as it is guided with a limited number of people allowed. "Because the tour is on an active Navy base, all persons on the tour must follow Navy rules. •All... I visited the Little Petroglyph Canyon during the annual Petroglyph festival in November 2015 with my family. The petroglyphs are on the China Lake Navy Base, so in order to take the tour you have to go through a background check through the Maturango museum. I believe the cost is around $35 per person. The ride to the canyon is... More
