The gold mine here is fascinating - you can tour at your own pace. Our children of middle school and elementary age loved this place. And it is very convenient - only 10 minutes from Placerville.

Stopped with kids on the way from San Francisco to Lake Tahoe. The staff were really enthusiastic and informative. Do take time to see the gold extracting area too.

It's not a long walk, so your toddler should do fine. My kids didn't have to wear a hard hat since they were so short. It's based on heights.
