You'll step back in time when you enter Gold Bug Park! It'a a REAL mining site from the Gold Rush days. Explore the park and then the mining museum. Find your riches in the gem panning trough. Be sure to visit our historic Stamp Mill and working Blacksmith Shop. Hattie's Gift Shop will be open for that special one-of-a-kind memento of your mining experience. Be sure to top off your visit with an audio tour of the Gold Bug Mine (see below; fee applies).

Our Hours:

April thru October: 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM Daily

November thru March: 12:00 noon to 4:00 PM on Weekends Only

During your self-guided audio tour of the Gold Bug you'll hear a California Gold Rush miner tell about the tools he used to get at that elusive yellow metal - GOLD! As you enter the 352 foot drift of this hard rock mine, you will feel the cool air brush against your face.

Activity Suggestions:

Bring a picnic lunch. Take a relaxing hike suitable for all ages along our dog-friendly trails. Check out the gold rush museum and perhaps stumble upon a lively blacksmith or a "real" 49er to share stories of the good ol' days. Gold Bug Park promises to be a wonderful experience for you and your family. Outdoor Pavilion rental available for groups of up to 75 people - suitable for summer graduations, family picnics, weddings, reunions, and more.

For Schools: We offer educational and entertaining guided tours for both schools and private groups. Contact the park to bring your California history curriculum to life.

The volunteers at Gold Bug are so excited to be there, and helpful and go out of their way. And the tour of the mines is exciting, especially the Priest Mine which they only open once or twice a year! Must go - there was a lot to learn about the miners of 1849.

Easy to find. There are signs pointing you in the right direction. Parking in scarce. It's better to get there early. Take a tour of the mining cave. It's nice a cool inside. The park people are nice and friendly. Some are dressed in costume and tell interesting tales and facts. My daughter loved panning for gold. She was hoping... More

My friend and I stopped here on a quick getaway. We really enjoyed the narrated self guided mine tour and the stamp mill. But the highlight was the working blacksmith. A group of grade school kids were fascinated. Great way to learn history!

A nice setting and a fine example of a gold mine dug into a rocky mountain. Their museum is a nice too. Worth at least one visit.

I love to bring visiting friends and family here as it is a nice journey into local gold mining history. The kids also enjoy panning for gold and shopping at the reasonably priced gift shop.

Have been to this park quite a few times over the years, and this is the best I have seen it. The added attractions make this a must stop if you want to learn about the history of the area and see what happened here, re. "gold'. There is a new stamp mill and a mine tour...which sadly is a... More

lovely way to spend a couple of hours or more touring the area and visiting the stamp mill...worth the visit. I think they may have some hiking trails nearby as well.

Very nicely designed location with excellent interpretive displays, actual stamp mill and occasional mine tours. It feels like you are in the forest, but you are only yards from the highway and Old Placerville.

Apologies again for the delay in submitting a review. (Visited the Gold Bug Mine in October 2015). The $7 admission fee was value for money. Even though the whole experience is probably more geared towards children and teenagers (my wife and I are 60 years old !) , this is a visit I will never forget. The experience was further... More
