A hidden gem. Phenomenal reds. Enjoyed the tasting immensely and joined the wine club. A very low key and welcoming experience. Highly recommended.

QPR is absolutely on point! Hospitality is absolutely on point! Maury and Tyler were fantastic! Everyone working here is here because what they do is truly guiding the potential of the fruit. The wine speaks for itself. No overpriced wine! No fancy tasting room to curve your experience. Just honesty from both the employees and wine!

This is a must stop for excellent wines at not over the top prices.
The tasting room staff are very friendly and I enjoyed the experience very much. Recommended for someone looking for highly rated wines at mid-range price point.

During weekdays, Caliza requires reservation for wine tasting. I am glad that we did. We had the pleasure of tasting Caliza wines with the owner winemaker Carl Bowker. To appreciate the story behind the wine, this husband and wife team got out of trade show plant decoration business of 20 years, and took a risk to purchase this hillside property after studying oenology and researching California locations replicating Châteauneuf-du-Pape soil. They had to figure out what varietals to plant where on their property, and waited a couple of years for harvestable vines to make wines of impeccable character. The thought, care and love that went into this process is evident from every detail like naming their winery Caliza - limestone in Spanish, flagship wine Azimuth - their celestial new direction in life. Not to mention the hard work behind every bottle: Carl met us at 10am but he was up at 4am harvesting grapes.

As for the wine, we found them to be Old world style - a palate pleasing balanced harmony where no one feature was shouting. It was refreshing to hear Carl’s description of both the tasting notes he sensed and did not sense that day depicting the journey of each bottle. Viognier and Kissin’ Cousins (Viognier Blend) were exceptional. One of the best Viognier's we have tasted over the last number of years. Of the reds, we liked Azimuth (GSM), Cohort (Syrah dominated Rhone Blend) and Syrah with high mellow tannins. We liked the wines so much, we had to join their wine club. The club membership gets you 15%-20% discount on all club shipments, online orders, and tasting room purchases depending on the number of bottles you commit twice a year in your subscription. Highly recommended.

▪️Location: Anderson Rd just off 46.
▪️Tasting Room: Large, clean, historically feeling facility.
▪️Wines tasted: We liked and bought a variety of reds and whites. Rhone reds are a strength of the winery.
▪️Cost: Fair, especially if you join the wine club.
▪️Service: This is one winery where you often find the owner/ wine maker, (Carl) pouring and discussing the wine. Tastings here are not rushed.
▪️Recommend? Strong yes. One of our favorite wineries and wine club over the years.

We are already members of at least 3 other wine clubs but after our first visit to Caliza this past Sunday, we had to join this one, as well. Every wine was delicious, individual - you can taste the love that goes into every bottle. In addition to joining their wine club, we also walked away with several bottles of their delicious wines. Highly recommend a stop here. Pam in the tasting room was awesome and very knowledgable, as well. We'll definitely be back!

We had the pleasure of tasting with the assistant wine maker, Andy. It was interesting to learn directly from him about the planting, harvest and bottling which happens at this boutique winery. Loved most of the wines we tasted - looking forward to our first club shipment.

This is what wine tasting should be about. I'm the type that if I see tour buses, or wine vans I just keep driving. This is a wonderful winery. Like some of the smaller wineries you can find the owner pouring the tastings... a must stop for great wines.

This was our third stop before lunch. Our group (3 couples) were warmly welcomed by the hosts who were behind the counter pouring with a large crowd. Friendly faces, small tasting room but cozy and warm, everyone was enjoying themselves here. Wine was very good! Our group purchased Primitivo and other reds that day. My spouse and I had been once before in summer and experienced the same friendly welcome and delicious wine. Recommend adding to your west side tour.

Many thanks for taking the time to write such a kind review. We are so glad that you came back again and brought friends! I see you enjoyed the Primitivo. On that note, are you familiar with Paso Roble's annual event - Vintage Paso: Zinfandel Weekend, March 18-20. You most likely learned while in our tasting room that Primitivo is the Italian clone of Zinfandel. We will be offering a special comparative tasting of our 2012 and newly released 2013 Primitivo Fri - Sun of that weekend by appt., in addition to our regular counter tasting line up. Come back and visit that weekend, all the great wineries in Paso that produce Zinfandel will be showcasing their wines at their wineries. It is a fun weekend indeed! Cheers!

We (me + 3 other family members) visited Caliza on a fairly busy Sunday afternoon during the Christmas season. The staff had their hands full with other guests, so the staff summoned the winemaker himself to assist us. What a great experience to have the winemaker himself guide us in the tasting of his wines. And what wines! They were all superb, and we all have become huge Caliza fans. The wines are not cheap, but they are better values than some other Paso Robles wineries we visited. First rate wines and first rate tasting room experience.
