Visited the Thousand Palms Oasis Preserve section of the Coachella Valley. Went looking for this area based on a recommendation from another hiker. Glad I did! The area is located right on the San Andreas Fault and is an oasis where water bubbles up from underground. As a matter of fact the water is actually a hot spring. The plant... More

We walked into the palm shaded area and was looking at the map when a volunteer approached us and asked us if he could help us. He told us all about the area and various hikes. He was extremely knowledgeable and after our talk, we opted for the Moon Country hike. We went to the beautiful natural oasis and then... More

We have been here twice and its always a joy to see. Beautiful palm trees, a true oasis. Great hiking paths and I'm glad to see they are keeping the parking lot small. Very knowledgeable docents.

A truly unique place if you appreciate homesteaders. The buildings are log structures - palm logs! And the Oasis is not all neat and tidy letting you experience what an Oasis is - insects, snakes, dried fronds stacked head high - no wonder Oasis' can catch fire! And hiking trails of all lengths. Interesting desert facts and accounts of survival... More

This was a nice walk, although time it correctly! We got there later than anticipated because we stopped briefly at the casino for a bit so it was 105 when we started our walk. It not strenuous at all, but hot and you are walking in sand basically,so sandals are not recommended. Also signs everywhere to stay on the trails,... More

This was not part of our initial plans but we are so glad that we visited this wonderful preserve. You would not imagine a place this beautiful and lush would in the middle of this arid hot landscape. We only had a brief period of time to visit the preserve but we will be back in a year for a... McCallum Trail is a short 2 mile round-trip to an oasis with cool clear water. Start out at the visitor's centre, pickup a info guide, then head off over a boardwalk through a lush forest of old palms and swampy area to come out on to an open walkable trail of soft sand. Check out the information signs about the... More

These are a collection of hikes in and around the oasis ranging from very easy and short to difficult and over 7 miles. The trails and grounds are well kept and the scenery is great. The hikes are self-guided - pick up the directory at the cabin on the way into the preserve.

Drive out Ramon and keep driving. Enjoyable and not strenuous walk through big palm trees, quiet and peaceful. Worth the effort.

This little park was an easy to find getaway from Palm Springs. Well marked trail took you to a small oasis and some great desert views. A good way to see some of the local environment
