Well worth the trip. I was worried about the gravel road but as of January 12, 2018 it seemed to have been freshly graded and was as smooth as anything. Also, on a Friday there were about 15 cars in the parking lot and lots...More

Mecca Hills/Painted Canyon is a beautiful and popular hiking spot. The trails take you up narrow "slot canyons" between ridge fins. The most popular hikes are up the "ladder-canyons" (as in you must climb ladders) but other canyons are accessible beyond the road "End" sign.

I had a few kids with me so we went partial way. My kids loved it, even my 6 year old, who loved climbing those ladders. There are definitely other challenging paths to go on and wished I had enough time to do it. Maybe...More

Great hiking experience for our family of adults and teens. I recommend dressing for a hike/climb and bring water. There were quite a few people when we went. Taking the trail clockwise gives you the best ladder experience. Make sure to look for the rock...More

No signal for GPS. Very easy to get lost so do your research. Spectacular views. One of our group couldn't handle all the climbing so we stayed on the south path and did linear hike. Bring lots of water. The road in is long and...More

It's hard to figure out where to go once you are there but we figured it out even though we went at it from the reverse way. Pay attention to directional arrows on the ground made of stones, they will help guide you. Enjoyed it...More

This is an amazing hike up ladders and thru slotted canyons. We unfortunately did not go all the way around but doubled back the way we came after reaching the top. But we should have -- next time! Go early and bring lots of water.

Perhaps not the longest hike, nor the most strenuous, but for scenery, for novelty, and for sheer awesomeness, this is a must-do! Leave yourself about three hours for the hike itself...not because of the distance, but because you'll want to stop for photos every five...More

We hiked here last week and joined a small group where one the guys thought he knew the lay of the land. We made it through the slot canyons and ladders. It was difficult in places but we loved every minute of it. Once we...More

The Painted Canyon hike was just amazing! Think of the hike as being divided into three different sections (although it's one big loop). There's the slot canyon with the ladders, the hike along the ridge with the amazing views, and the walk in the dried...More

I don't think this is a state park. Since there is no fee to enter Painted Canyon. There isn't anything to drive around. You actually park in a small lot and then hike around. If you are physically able, I would... More

I don't know of any ropes on the main climb. All fixed ladders. The hike from the plateau toward the antenna towers and then back down the dry canyon is a bit of a slog so we usually just reverse our path back down the... More

My best advice is, if you have a smart phone with navigation system, just type in painted canyon as your destination. Took me right to the entrance of the hike. When you enter, you have two options. Left: will take you... More
