This is a simple plaque honoring one of the best musicians of the 20th century. The beach this monument graces is just beautiful. I wish I could say the same about the plaque. It is very difficult to read and was placed in a section that doesn't really stand out to passers-by. I took several photos and the one attached is edited so it's a bit easier to read the text.

The first album I ever bought in my life was in 1974 at 10 years of age. I walked uptown to the dime store and with my own cash bought "John Denver's Greatest Hits". I've been a fan ever since.

I was on my first trip to the area, hitting big spots like Yosemite, Sequoia, and San Francisco, but I knew I had to go here. I listened to his music in the car on the beautiful drive there. I had to check my map a few times to actually find it since it wasn't marked with a sign or anything, at least not that I saw. The actual stone/plaque itself was covered with things people had left, which is fine except a lot of what was left were shells from the beach which really weren't the prettiest. I guess I was a little naive as to how special this place would be to other people. There were a lot of people in the area and on the beach, but it was obvious that they either didn't realize where they were or didn't care.

So I got away on my own a bit, sat on a big rock, and stared out to sea. His cover of "Thirsty Boots" was playing in my head, and I sat there and shed a few tears.

A worthwhile stop for a JD fan. Just make it your own if conditions are less than ideal.

We visited 25 years to the day following the crash in which John Denver died; it happened just off the coast. Some flowers had been left by the memorial stone. It is an interesting spot to spend some time. It also affords some stunning views out to sea

Whilst driving from San Francisco to Irvine down Pacific Coast Hwy-1 I decided to stop at the John Denver Memorial Beach to take a look at the place that remembers where he died in a plane crash that occurred close to this spot on 12th October 1997. At the beach there is a large stone upon which is a memorial plaque. This is a peaceful place to visit and pleasant whether a John Denver fan or not.

I live in Central California. On Sept 6, the temp was supposed to be 113 degrees. I decided it was a good day to drive to the coast. I've been wanting to see John Denver Memorial Beach for some time, so I finally went. It was so peaceful there. After reading the memorial plaque (and singing the song whose lyrics are inscribed) I sat on a bench and just enjoyed the peace, the ocean breeze, the temperature of 76 degrees, and the local wildlife (gulls and squirrels). Unfortunately, I did have to go home, but I thoroughly enjoyed this experience.

So quiet and tranquil. It seemed like everyone had come to pay their respects to this great musician and songwriter.

We heard there was a John Denver memorial and persevered until we located it. While somewhat small (which doesn't detract from the seascape), it evoked memories we each had from the past. A perfect location as his plane crashed into the water near the site. For those who enjoy nostalgia.

Researched the death of John. Though he was a pilot and owned a 10-12 place Leer Jet, and flew anything he could find……when there is no more fuel and you cannot switch over to the other wing tank ……..

If you are in the area, be sure to stop here for a moment of reflection for an extremely talented artist. Play one of your favorite John Denver tunes while looking out over the magnificent ocean.
