About
The concept is to “stray from the norm.” Strey is anything but traditional; it embraces the industrial look and feel of the neighborhood and takes “modern” to the next level! The vibe is fresh and sleek with clicks and pops of color. The moment you grace that doorstep you are sure to be greeted with the warmest of welcomes. It’s about great wine and an awesome time; Owner operators, Scott and Katie, are serving it straight up with no frills. Strey Cellars is unequivocally a labor of love from the inside to outside the bottle! With meticulous attention to detail and their small case production you are certain to being drinking something awesome. Single red varietals prove to be the specialty at Strey but are in no way limiting to the types of wine winemaker Scott Ballew thirsts to share with local and visiting wine enthusiasts alike. Feel your heart smile at first sip. Strey is your everyday wine. You deserve it! Taste the wine, tour the winery, join the Nation and as always… deviate responsibly!

Strey is one of two warehouse wineries in the same parking lot on Rice Avenue in Oxnard. The family and friends who run this place are a joy, as is their dog.

Scott's wines are distinctive, and he is always trying new things.

Go there once, and you will meet people you will want to meet again.

Strey Cellars (Scott and Katie). Scott is a wonderful wine maker with a lot of talent.
Katie is a great front person who always makes you feel welcomed and like one of the family.
Tonight is the Comedy and Wine night with a food truck, it was an excellent evening.

Visit Strey for an excellent wine tasting experience!

We just happen to be in that area of Oxnard and saw this winery. As a fan of wines we went in. We were met by Katie, who was serving, and she spoke about the wines they were showing on this day. She was very helpful, insightful, kind, knowledgeable and great to talk to. During the pours we had great conversation about the wines and learned about their product. As we were finishing our 6, we told her of our affection for Zin's and she was kind enough to open one for tasting. The Zin was good but of the 7 that we tasted we thought three were outstanding. Their white (the name escapes me), red blend "Cynder" and red Sangiovese had unique qualities. Yes, wine is as personal a drink as it gets and every palette is different but these were so good for us, we took the reds home. We hope to see more of their product in the future.

I was in the area to visit friends who moved up here and We stopped in at Strey Cellars on a Saturday afternoon. The trading room has a long bar and several low tables with about 5 chairs around them. A great set up for some fun wine tasting for sure. We started at the bar and ended up at one of the tables. Like all wine tasting cellars, they charged a modest and typical fee for the tasting ($10/pp) which is credited toward bottles purchased. I enjoyed their wines very much. They typically pour 5 bottles today's tasting didn't have the cab but when we asked about it, they happily poured us a taste. I actually loved the Cab the most. Their lovely and friendly dog Visited with us too. The wines tasted great - clean bold varietals. They do t appear to make many blended varietal wines, just good standard - Sangiovese, Merlot, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon. It's a friendly fun and thoroughly enjoyable time.

So glad you enjoyed your time with us! Glad we could accommodate. The Cab is my favorite too; but I'm a Cab kind of girl. We look forward to seeing you again. We only ever have one blend in the works at a time. I looks like since your visit we have release a new blend that you might LOVE. Hope to kick it with you soon. Thanks for the great review

When I have brought my guests here, Katie and Scott, who are a young couple and the owners of Strey Cellars. When I have gone to Strey, I am always greeted with enthusiasm. Also a wonderful greeter is Tawny their boxer mix rescue dog. Strey has a few whites and lots of reds. Cabernet, Zinfandel, Petite Syrah and Tempranillo are all tasty and affordable. I disagree with the other review feeling misled about tasting fees. Seasoned tasters know that almost all wineries charge a tasting fee. Some wineries are kind enough to credit back the tasting fee with a certain $ amount spent or a certain number of bottles purchase. The tasting fee of $10.00 per person which amounts to a full glass of wine is fair. Generously, they credit the fee back with the purchase of one bottle. So if you are a glass is half full type of person and buy a $29.00 bottle of Chardonnay, you paid $19.00 for it and $10.00 for your glass of wine. I do agree with the other review that the wines are very good. The owners are also happy to take you on a tour to show you how wine is made at their winery. I am looking forward to future wine releases at Strey Cellars..

We stopped in to purchase a nice bottle of wine to enjoy our Saturday evening back at our hotel, as we are in town on business for two weeks. The person that waited on us, was less than friendly and acted like we were wasting his time. We tasted (less than a swallow) 2 wines and purchased one, the Chardanay which was the best we had ever tasted, at $29 a bottle. Then we were informed that there is a $10 tasting fee per person, unless you purchase wine, which we did. Apparently that meant bottle of wine purchase per person, so our $29.00 bottle of wine cost us $39.00. Oh well lesson learned, the wine was delicious, but we both left the business feeling like we were snubbed by wine snobs.

Apologies your experience was not up to par! This really doesn't sound like our staff, which is actually all female (not male) in the tasting room. We try to adhere to a stress free tasting room standard where everyone feels comfortable and welcome. I hope you are open minded enough to try us again! On a lighter note, I am, delighted that you loved the wine.
