VERY DARK. Make sure to have good shoes and a bright flashlight. This is an easy walk but the ground is lava and very uneven. There is a flight of staires to enter and exit the cave.

A big, dark hole in the ground created by lava. You must bring a GOOD flashlight because you don't know what "dark" is until you walk through the cave. I loved this stop over. A short walk from the parking lot brings you to the...More

Another area favorite to visit. Take a light jacket and a flashlight. Hard to imagine the power and force a volcano had to be able to form these caves. Go in the off season to avoid the crowds. Free parking. Easy access. Free admission.

What a cool spot to visit! Was a lot of fun exploring all of the points of interest. Easy to imagine pirates or dragons making story telling awesome! Do this, you'll love it! Bring good shoes, your wild imagination, a light and a light jacket.

The Subway Caves have been sealed off to make them safer People used to get lost in there. Bring a flashlight apiece. The floor is rough, so wear enclosed shoes.

We visited here as part of a whistlestop tour of Lassen and the surrounding areas. It a quirky little "cave" resulting from magma flows. The tour is self guided so you will need flashlights or a good number of mobile phone lights. Be aware that...More

Very neat trip in an underground cave. Make sure you bring a flashlight as it is pitch black and the ground is pretty uneven. It's a short little hike but pretty cool.

We stumbled across the Subway Cave while enroute from Lassen to Burney and decided it was worth a stop based on what we saw from Google Maps. I'm SO glad we did because it was a gem and made for a great quick stop to...More
