Driving through Ocotillo Wells area is always a pleasure. There is so much Natural history to see and take note of.

Ocotillo California is the perfect winter get away - few people, many activities and great scenery. There is an overlook with a great view, where dinosaurs used to walk. Shell canyon is a fossil haven, shells of ancient times sticking out of the hill walls. The desert flowers are so beautiful, but not always blooming. The jeep trails take you... More

A shorter hike than the nearby Painted Gorge hike but it's easier to view fossils here. Sometimes the road is in bad shape so take a 4x4 or hike in to the trailhead. This is an ACEC so leave all resources as you find them. Get info from the BLM.
