Who knew that Downtown Oakland has a beautiful, hundred plus year old Jewish synagogue right in the Heart of the City. I wish I could have gone inside to see. The exterior is an interesting white brick. There's even some history. If your local, stop by and check out some of the Beautiful Things Oakland has to offer.

Wasn't able to go into the sanctuary but just walking around the original structure was amazing. I did snap a bunch of picture just because of the pattern of the brick.

Located on summit street, it has a lovely school and is steeped in Jewish culture. It is near Samuel Merritt University, Alta Bates/ Summit medical center, and about 3 blocks from the First Presbyterian Church.

I and my wife admit to being very casual Temple members but I want to write to say that the music services (about once every month or two are fantastic - very lively with various musical treats. The Cantor has a fabulous voice that is a delight to hear. Watch for these free concerts.

This reminds me of the shuls that I remember when I was growing up. The fact that it is in Oakland off Broadway and not the Grand Concourse in the Bronx is strange.

Beautiful old synagogue in Oakland. Welcoming community, kids services, pre school, new young rabbis.

This is beautifully designed Temple with modern updates. I have attended several Bar and Bat Mitzvahs here and the Rabbis and Cantors perform these rites of passages with flair. Don't know if is available for tours but if not, it is worth attending a service there. They are also very good participants in the community, allowing the community rooms to... More

We visited Temple Sinai in Oakland. Temple Sinai is the oldest Jewish Congregation in the East San Francisco Bay Region. It was founded in 1875.
