We were in Oakland in the rain, so we stepped into the Saloon. The floor is uneven and slanted. The room is tiny, and the bar is original from the 1800's. Sitting down with an Irish coffee in this place is like traveling back in time. This is a totally unique experience...

This bar truly is as good as it gets. The bartenders are the best and most colorful you could ever ask for, the drinks are stiff and reasonably priced, the decor is fun and keeps your eyes and brain busy, and the entire place just oozes history. Jack London loved to drink and write here. Take that, bearded faux-hemians! But... More

Being a long time Bay Area native, I am embarrassed to say I had never been here before today. A colleague of mine and I decided to end our work day early today and head there for a beer. What an amazing historical find. The place is packed full of mementos, pictures and history and the fact that the bar... More

Fantastic little small bar in Jack London Square in Oakland! It is truly a hole in the wall. Loved the atmosphere! The floor sloped greatly due to an earthquake, but not a big deal to me as we enjoyed the outdoor patio!

If you are on Jack London Square, look for this place, otherwise you'll regret it. We were lucky enough to get to seat inside (there are only 3-4 tables). There are also more tables outside. The place has a special charm to it, with all the history that surrounds it.

The most bizarre bar I have ever been. Inside very small and everything is crooked. Nice interior which is completely filled with history. It is also still cozy despite the small amount of available space.

If you like history, you have to go here. Seeing a business still operating from a whaling boat and the earthquake of 1906 is cool.

1906 earthquake caused rear of the First and Last Chance saloon to tilt. Fix didn't work. So as you sit at the cozy bar you lean a bit. Even before first drink. One of the most eccentric, quirky, crammed with memorabilia, super neat bars I've ever frequented. The history of this establishment is remarkable. Atmosphere plus. As friendly and unassuming... One day I was passing by this local landmark & inquired about the name. The bartender was outside & told me that there once was a ferry dock to Alameda, which was "dry" at that time, and so people going there had a last chance to have an alcoholic drink before boarding the boat.

While in Oakland visiting friends, we walked through Jack London Square and happened upon this landmark historic tavern. While the inside is tilted and askew, it is full of history! Make sure to check it out. We decided to have beers on the outside patio, and the locals we met were delightful. Great historic tavern!!
