This is the modern cathedral for the diocese of Oakland. It occupies a spectacular site on Lake Merritt, but does not necessarily enhance it. Not my taste.

It's a stunning construct, beautifully modern both in profile against the deep sky blue and within. Descending to the mausoleum we spent some quiet time amongst the final resting place for many. The vista along the nave is marvellous, soaring wood features ascending over the...More

This is an incredible Modern Cathedral. The seat of the Diocese of Oakland. The Glass structure with the wood interior also creates an incredible acoustic effect. We were there for the Celebration of the 150th Anniversary of the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus...More

One of the most dramatic churches we've ever seen anywhere in the world. Soaring ceilings, cantilevered platforms for the organ, light filled gallery. This is a must-see no matter what religion you are!

The cathedral is housed inside a piece of modern architecture that pales in comparison with the grandeur of baroque or gothic European cathedrals. However, the inside is simply magnificient. It is cavernous, airy, and bright from the natural light filtering through the layers of wood...More

We visited this cathedral last year. It's by Lake Merritt in Oakland. Beautiful cathedral, worth a visit to and possibly worship, if so inclined.

Stop on by and learn the fascinating history of this Cathedral, built to replace the one destroyed in the '89 quake. The winning design was originally the second place winner but became the winning design after the Diocese and the winning architect disagreed on how...More

An example of the Cathloic Church going 21st Century. Good music. Good sermons. Lots of seating. Fellowship and donuts do mix!

As long as it is light outside it should be easily visible. We were there mid day, until about 4 in the afternoon for a special event. It was overcast, but still clearly visible.
