This is actually the Empire Mine State Park located in Grass Valley Calif. not Nevada City, the distance between the two cities is approx 4.5 miles. It's a beautiful park with flowering grounds, walking paths and horse riding trails. It has a great mining exhibit and a short ride in an ore car into the mine. The Bourn home is... More

We were part of a large group that had made advance appointment to visit the Empire Mine State Historic Park and the Bourn House. We had arranged for a special docent tour of the mine and the house, and both docents provided excellent informative tours of both the mine and the Bourn house. We especially enjoyed hearing about the history... More

You visit the Bourn House when you visit the historic Empire Mine. If you are one of the days that the docents are portraying the Bournes or other individuals from that era you are in for a treat.

The Bourn Mansion has been the setting for numerous weddings and parties--plus a few movie shoots. Access inside may be limited, but the incredible beautiful grounds are definitely worth the trip. The Bourn Mansion is part of the Empire Mine State Park, so there's much more to see when you visit besides the mansion. Of particular interest to me is... More

The tour of the mining operations was very informative and we enjoyed the blacksmith demonstration. The exhibits in the visitor center, including the model of the mine and gem displays, were also very worthwhile. The only reason to knock it down to 4 stars was because the employees in the visitor center seemed mostly interested in closing up and getting... More

This was the first visit my fiancé took my son & I on to show his love of this area. This tour and grounds are amazing. We can't say enough good things about it. Gorgeous and amazing stories of its heyday.

Great historical find. The Bourne Mansion is actually part of Empire State Park in Grass Valley. Yours are given with reservations. Like walking back in time.

I loved the tour of the Bourn "Cottage." Beautiful grounds, very nice staff, and the tour of the cottage is not to be missed. Docents are in period costumes and are very natural and friendly. Little ones usually get a cookie when they visit the kitchen.

Quite a history of this building as described by the well-informed docents. The grounds are beautiful, the building well-maintained & very interesting.

We loved our visit to Empire mine. We took the tour of the grounds and heard the fascinating history of the family. Unfortunately the house is being reashingled and expected to be finished by the end of the year.
