Best old town theater

A great place to go back in history and watch a Sunday movie, plays and great music. Right downtown and easy walking and parking right across the street in a big parking lot.

Golden Road Radio Hour Live Onstage! a 3 hour collaboration of music, dance, art, video, poetry, health, and community interests including environmental interests and concerns, and a benefit for the Hospitality House homeless shelter. It is amazing what they covered in this brief time and how enriching a community it is. The theater itself is historic and beautiful and all... More

Like watching the 4th of July parade in town, it feel like stepping back in time. When you walk through the iron doors, Gold Rush history comes alive. You can almost feel Mark Twain hanging around the lobby, smoking an illegal (no smoking in Nevada City, especially indoors) cigar an making sardonic quips. Sure, modern theaters have modern, super-comfy seating,... More

We live in Nevada City. The theatre is historic and a venue for local production companies to present plays. Nevada County has so many talents and theatre companies such as Legacy Productions, Sierra Stages, CATS (Asian theatre), Sierra in Concert, Music in the Mountains, Off Broadstreet. We also have a Grass Valley theatre: Center for the Performing Arts. Everyone should... More

The Nevada Theatre is a cozy place to see a live show. The sound is great, the stage is always colorful. Legacy productions is my favorite shows to see there. Sue LeGate-Halford and company put on the best, high quality shows. They always entertain the audience, never dissapoints the crowd. Go see Sue Legate-Halford in January when she brings Janis... Absolutely wonderful. It was a great experience. I can't wait to see what they have next! It has the wonderful feeling of an old establishment with so much history inside.

The Producer, a Mel Brooks play, had received rave reviews and several of our friends recommended it to us. We were amazed at the excellent performances of the actors, the set designs and the multiple changes of the set. The audience was pretty senior, probably reflecting the local retirees in the community. But, there were some younger members of the... More

We saw "The Producers" with a first class cast. The songs were great, and it was very funny. The seats, also, were very comfortable. It's a small theater, so there's not a bad seat in the house. It's also the oldest theater in California.

Although the theater is old, it is well kept. The rows of chairs are not elevated enough, so when you are sitting behind people that are tall (over 6 feet) or women that have 'big hair', it is hard to see around them. Having to constantly swerve from side to side in order to see the actors on stage wasn't... More
