Jack put together an amazing trip to fly fish the Chilean Patagonia. With his local contact Tolin Otarola, they designed a special 12 day fishing adventure in the rivers and lakes along the Austral Highway. The fishing was amazing and the scenery was as well. Thank you. Jack and Tolin for a trip of a lifetime!

Mr. Jack Trout is a great guide and awesome person. I booked a one day guided trip on the McCloud. Unfortunately the trout were not biting and instead of putting a full day on the river, Jack offered to take me on Klamath River. He didn't have to do that and demonstrates the passion he has for people to make memories. The trip paid off as I caught some steelhead and also Salmon on a 7x fly rod, which was amazing. Highly recommend Jack as he will do everything he can so you leave with a memory for ever. He isn't a bad cook either, the lunches on both days were were above expectations.

I was in the Cayman Islands on business and had one day I could go fly fishing for tarpon. Called Jack and asked if he could get me a good fly guide for the NEXT day—he said sure and called me back with a guide all set up.
Guide picked us up in the morning at the hotel with all gear and we hooked and jumped 8 and landed 2 tarpon! Epic day! Jack trout is the place to go for those last minute trips! Thanks Jack—you are my go to guy!

Awesome Sierra fishing experience. Jack was great with my adult son who had never fished before. In no time, he was casting and catching fish. We go out a few days per year with Jack and we've had 20+ fish days including bright, wild steelhead on the Klamath. He puts you on the fish with lots of opportunities for success! His knowledge of local history and riverside, gourmet lunches are a great bonus. I would never book with anyone else. Thanks Jack.

I've fished with Jack several times and would not use any other guide. I brought my son, who had never fished before, and he was casting and catching fish right away. Jack knows how to put us on the fish and get lots of opportunities. His knowledge of local history and gourmet, stream side lunches are nice bonuses. We now go out a few times per year and have had 20+ fish days with lots of fresh, wild Klamath steelhead.

Working with Jack and his guides in the Bahamas was an absolute treat, wish I could give them more than 5 stars honestly. Jack went out of his way in the middle of his own fishing trip to put together two last minute trips for me and my family. He worked closely with me to tailor the trip to be exactly what I needed. One day of fly fishing hard with just myself and my wife where I caught a PR bonefish in the 8-9 lb range as well as my first permit, and another trip more geared toward family fun with a goal of just catching fish where we hammered grouper and snapper off of the reef. Our guides Mario and “Bonefish” Walker (Father Son team) and their family in Nassau are amazing people that worked very hard to make sure we had great days. They also went above and beyond helping my mom who twisted her knee during the trip to be able to enjoy a day on the water as well. I will definitely be using Jack Trout for all of my future fishing trips to the Bahamas with his guide team there and anywhere (pretty much in the world) that I’m headed!

I emailed Jack less than a week before my trip to the Bahamas and he was able to get me a full day on the water with my guide Mario. I found Mario to be very friendly throughout the entire day. We promptly headed out after I arrived at 7:30am. He found bonefish very quickly in the first spot he stopped to check. So from about 8:15am, we had bonefish in the area of the boat until the end of the trip. This my first trip for bonefish. I hooked 12 and landed 8. A great day for sure! If my 8wt and I would have gotten along a little better earlier in the day, I think I would have landed more! Overall a great experience. I fished with my own gear/flys. We fished an outgoing tied. I would not hesitate to use Jack Trout again in the future.

I'd like to advise those who are considering a fishing trip in Nassau Bahamas with Jack Trout.

When people think about fly fishing the Bahamas it normally includes sitefishing crystal clear waters for flats fishing shots in a skiff poled by a professional guide; our 4-hour trip on 13 February 2023 was anything but that.

In short, the trip was by far the worst trip I have ever experienced.

Outline as follows:

+ Arrived at the dock around 9:30-am
+ The 'guide' (I'll use this term very loosely) immediately went to the nearby gas pump to buy fuel.....he didn't have fuel!
+ The marina refused to sell him fuel as customers were aboard; we offered to get off the skiff to get fuel as we insisted he have adequate fuel.....still refused
+ He then took us to a boat ramp (?!) a minute away from the marina.....all kinds of activity, boats launching and running, fish market, public access.....on and on
+ We 'fished' there!!!! for over an hour!!! What fish.....especially a bonefish would be in such waters/environment??
+ He had no means to control the boat; no pushpole, no trolling motor; get this....he would throw the anchor overboard and pull us to a position!!
+ Sitefishing was impossible; fishing was impossible.....50-feet from a boatramp.....unbelieviable!
+ We luckily brought our own gear as the gear onboard was barely gear, no flies as promised in Trout's trip summary
+ The boat was a pos but okay, no biggie.....except when it didn't start
+ He had to splice battery cable to get going; i wasn't worried as we could have walked to the boatramp rather that to get stranded
+ We finally left the boatramp........to get gas
+ We reluctantly continued on as things were so bad, and we didn't want to get stranded at sea
+ Went to a nearby muddy, shallow lagoon surrounded by a junkyard and 'fished' (?) there for a while; no chance to sitefish, or fish for that matter
+ Very windy day but he pounded the boat into the waves on the way back; had to tell/direct him to slow down as it was so uncomfortable/dangerous
+ Got to the shore before 1:00-pm.....one of few times i was happy that i got shortchanged/ripped off on fishing time
+ He told us we owed him more $ than agreed on with Trout
+ He told us that we booked the trip early and the gas prices went up
+ Then he told us that Trout was wrong and the website pricing was incorrect
+ We finally left after paying the agreed on rate.....which was way too excessive anyway given the horrific experience

I vented on Trout and he sent a text reply explaining that the trip was unacceptable but did nothing more.

Beware!!

I'd strongly suggest you totally bypass Nassau fishing and Jack Trout.

Ray Shimkobo Feb 13th, 2023 First of all I would like to say I am very sorry you were unhappy, we always try to do our very best, we wre having excellent trips until that darn storm came that week in February. One of the reasons this trip did not go as planned was we had sent you a confirmation distinctly requesting you to download Whatsapp on your cell phone, I checked yesterday, you still have not added that free app and that's how we communicate with our clients while being in the Bahamas or in any other foreign county, it's free and easy. It was windy that day, not a great day to go out, you still elected to proceed with this trip, you could have cancelled it right then and there? My guide wanted to wait a little bit to see if the winds would die down like reported. You bought a half day, we wanted to be sure to go out during the best part of the day if possible, so what if we were refueling? My guide said you were really riding him and condescending, why the rush? I was away from the office that day and Mario called your number on Whatsapp and it wasn't working, he really didn't want to go out. The Bahamas Government has a law about refueling while clients are onboard a vessel, that's for everyone's safety, we had a trip the day before, that was a full day and by the time he got back to the gas station they were closed, it was Sunday, you went out on Monday, Feb 13th. You're extremely critical Ray, saying you had to wait for an hour, why not just go with the flow, this was a half day trip, we are not perfect by any means, but we mean well and try to do our best, it's a foreign country, not the USA. You mentioned I only sent a text to you. That is not correct, I called you two times, sent texts and wanted to discuss what happened, you wouldn't return my calls, I found to be immature in nature? I was also disheartened by your comment in your email that included racial undertones that said: "You need to change your banner to show some chumps sitting in a pos boat with a guy chucking an anchor." That's cruel Ray, people are people, my guide in Andros is of a different origin then my guide in Nassau, you caught fish Ray, you never mentioned that part. Using a pole doesn't work on windy days, using an anchor to hold you in the right direction to cast worked that day. I see you are from Florida, we may not have the same boats they have in the Florida Keys but our prices reflect that we are $200 to $300 less per day than guides in your state. Our boat is a Boston Whaler. If you were so worried about being stranded out at sea, why did you even proceed with the trip? I find your review to be extremely harsh and mostly untrue. All you had to do was cancel or talk with me and we could have worked something out, but it was obvious Ray, you are a hard man to please and extremely critical of others. Jack Trout

some friends related their great experiences with Jack, and I recently had the opportunity of a sosl one-day guided float trip with him. It was AWESOME!! I caught 5 fish including 3 winter steelhead, about 5 lb each. More significant for me, as a fairly new fly fisherman, Jack's teaching ability is first class. His 30+ years experience, local knowledge, and patience was like graduate school for fly fishing. It was fun floating the river with him, he has a great demeanor. Lunch was fresh grilled tri-tip steak and fresh veggies he prepared on shore while I took a few minutes to practice my shore fishing under his watchful eye. I am a definite return customer!

Jack hooked it up once again! My dad and I were traveling in Chile and Argentina Patagonia region and wanted to set up a guided trip on the infamous Futaleufú River. It was last minute, and jack found a phenomenal local guide who knew the complicated river like the back of his hand. It was the first time I sight fished in crystal clear water for giant rainbow trout with dry flies. It was like fishing in an aquarium. Our guide Género Vega positioned the raft perfectly every time and we caught lots of amazing fish. Thanks again Jack!
