Americana at it’s best. Not the greatest attraction, but but very glitchy. Fun! I’d visit it again. Great old family attraction.

Audio quality was poor and you could not differentiate the stations with them all going at the same time. Waste of time

We thought this place was a must see. It is unique, historic, and...maybe even creepy. We wondered why certain characters weren’t explained and that made it all the more mysterious as we made up stories about them ourselves. It is unusually dark at times as you figure out which button to press next. It’s advertised for the whole family but I would advise against children. Don’t forget the stairs at the entrance are piano keys - so much fun.

So after years of living in Monterey and never having been in the wax museum, my friend and I (16 and 18, respectively) decided to go. We went when there was absolutely no one there, and boy was that a mistake. This area is CREEPY. With everything dark and covered in cobwebs, the dioramas were either intimidatingly large and shadowy or way too close. With animatronics on every side of you, we had constant anxiety and felt their eyes always looking at us (which actually move. not joking). Also, I don't really know how "family friendly" this attraction is supposed to be, but there was a pretty graphic and startling depiction of a man being hanged with a hood over his head, a skeleton yelling about gold, and a scene we were 99% sure was hinting at prostitution. So I mean if that's your deal, then go ahead. I'm quite sure it was nothing short of spectacular when first built, but now the lifeless figures and creaky floorboard ceilings scream nothing but "House of Wax." They'd probably make more money selling it as a haunted house around Halloween time. I'd go.

OK, this place is really dated, has crappy animatronics and is about 20 mins long but it’s only about $7 and genuinely taught us stuff about JS, Monterey and Cannery Row that we didn’t know. It’s fun, give it a spin. Also, kids will like the musical stairs!

This attraction is definately dated, but if you want to learn about the history of the area, this is a must see. To enter you go downstairs but I don't do stairs well, so the worker took me down in the elevator which is good to know if stairs are a problem. We were really glad we decided to check this out.

This was all that I thought it would be. Whenever this was started I think it was an earnest effort to educate people on the history of Monterey, which I love. I also love all attempts at copying Disney animatronics in attempt to delight the kids. This is NOT succeeding in that in anyway these days but man was it entertaining to me! It might as well have been a haunted house LOL and like 1/5 of the lights or audio didn’t even work. I think thats a little lazy, even for how dusty this place is. Dont bring your little ones. Do pass thru for a good & scary history lesson.

Honestly the environment of the place is weird. At first I was looking forward to going plus going down the stairs each step made a piano note (10/10 stairs). Enter the place and the wax animatronics were cheap and musty (the kind you see in those fortune teller coin game). The history of California and Monterey were very blunt and little bit racist in some parts. There is one violent part I wouldn’t let my kid see. That part left me shook and tiny bit traumatized. Some of the buttons would not work and would take forever to start. Some kept droning on. Very short. This place is good if you are interested in weird attractions. Would be better if updated and maintained but I understand why you wouldn’t want to clean that place by yourself and/or in the dark.

The idea behind the place is awesome, but it's in dire need of maintenance and cleaning. It's brutally honest history and I like that. With a total revamp and good cleaning it would be one of my favorite spots in Monterey.
