If your wondering why its called OLD fisherman's wharf, going there will answer your question. The wharf is small and has old, deteriorating shops BUT it offers many tourist hungry restaurants with authentic seafood and has several "dust collector" shops for the kids (and adult collectors).

This is another beautiful place in Monterey. Lots of neat little shops and restaurants line both sides of the wharf. Free clam chowder samples at each one of them. Very nice walk for anyone to enjoy.

This is basically a small pier with a row of identical tourist gift shops and restaurants all offering the same thing. You could actually probably eat for free tasting some of the free clam chowder offered outside each restaurant. We only spent about 10 minutes here, but we did see some seals in the water which was cool.

Old Fisherman's Wharf was a perfect place to grab some delicious food as they have several restaurants that serve amazing sea food options. They have cute little candy shops were you can grab chocolate covered strawberries & cherries. and also boutiques where you can grab little trinkets of Monterey. Along the boardwalk they have several place were you can sign... More

We took a walk along the wharf looking in the shops and the museum. Nice walk, not strenuous for us old folks. Two available restrooms situated far from each other which require a long walk to either one. Not good if you have small children or elders.

The wharf was basically all restaurants and shops with a couple resident seals by the tour boat ticket office. Good for people watching and dining if your hungry. However, on shore there are several historical buildings to walk around. There is also a free trolley that will take you to Cannery Row so you can leave your car in the... More

Several restaurants but not open air except a couple. Good for a long walk but not that much shopping or things to do.

Sampling clam chowder down the walkway was nice. That itself would fill you up. Friendly staff in the shops and restaurants. This is a nice area to sit and people watch. Check out the small beach below just after the tide goes out and you will see star fish and other small creatures.

I had the best whaling tour ever with Chris's Whaling tour group there on the wharf. His 30 years in business shows and adds a genuine local nautical flavor lacking in the the other choices. The wharf itself is wonderful for a morning walk, never forgetting that this is Steinbeck country with your leisurely stroll.
