We rode our bikes along the old haul road. Located at the end of the parking lot. It was relatively flat dirt/gravel road. It runs along the river. There are several pretty vistas fo the river along the way. We saw many wild flowers along the road. Talked to a local who said they had ridden it only the weekend... More

This is a lively beach area and a great place to relax and read a book. The water is clean here without the ocean growth so it's a bit more of a relaxing experience.

We went at 9am to the spot near the turnoff to the town of Mendocino, but on the other side of Highway 1, under the bridge. It was misty and sprinkling. Umbrellas in hand, we started walking. Very soon we started seeing our feathered friends....a night heron, a great blue heron, a beautiful white egret, a hawk, ducks and seagulls... More

Excellent walk in deep sand on the wide beach to the Pacific Ocean and/or along the dirt forest road (old logging railway line) that follows the river into the redwoods. It's an easy walk as the dirt road is the former graded railway line and is flat or a very gentle slope. Superb location for a driftwood campfire on the... More

This is a great area. It's surrounded by forests and you can walk forever exploring the area. This is a great location for kayaks, canoes and all water sports.

We're part time. residents of Mendocino and the Big River walk is a family favorite. Dog friendly ( but please leash your pup). Pretty much a flat walk so good for just about anyone that likes to hike, no matter they're age.

Only a mile or so from Mendocino near the bridge that spans the Big River, the canoes are rented at reasonable rates and canoeing is to some degree limited by the tides and winds. Its wise to call first to check on conditions, best times to go and make reservations. Life jackets are supplied and we took along water and... More

We visited this beach in the morning. I had a nice run on the beach. All kinds of activities going on! Paddle boarding, kayaking, outriggers on the river, dogs swimming, soccer practice, picnics!

My family went to Little River at the end of July. We visited the Big River State Park where it meets the Pacific Ocean. This is a great park to visit with a big sandy beach. It wasn't too crowed for a sunny July afternoon. People were kayaking up and down the river toward the ocean. We set up our... More
