My husband and I visited Van Damme State Park and walked along the Fern Canyon Scenic Trail. It was LOVELY! Tall Redwoods and lush ferns along the stream. Very soothing to be there as there were not many people on the trail. Unfortunately we didn't...More

We hiked the whole trail, for us a 9.2 experience. One of the best workouts we've ever had and a treat to the eyes, ears, and noses the whole way.

This is a terrific place to visit and easy to get to. It is right off Highway 1 in Little River. Stroll on the beach and enjoy the area. We were traveling on a Monday and the beach was not crowded.

We only walked the Pigmy Forest part. The pigmy trees are a truly fascinating phenomenon, one of Mother Nature's quirks - on the other hand, don't be underwhelmed ... we were a bit by the sight of the pygmies. Basically they look like young trees,...More

The true experience here means putting this natural oddity into perspective. Just walking around is only a nice experience. But learning how nature's conditions have made these Mendocino cypresses grow to 1-2 frets over 80 years...while they would grow to 30 feet in a redwood...More

VanDamme Park is next to Little River. It is a beautiful park that has nice walking and hiking trails. It contains giant redwoods that tower over the park as well as ferns that grow up the canyon walls and are extremely dense. Very picturesque.

Across from Van Damme beach, a flat area and calm cove where a creek comes out. Nice campsite in the lower and middle levels. There is a trail to the pygmy forest and an informative visitors center

We stopped at Van Damme and enjoyed a walk on the beach. The coast has lots of boulders in the breaking waves, making it quite exciting.

They have a fire pit with a half grill. Its small and doesn't cover the whole fire pit. we have used it to roast corn on the cob and fish in tin foil
