We made Mariposa our homebase for a 4 day journey to Yosemite. Spent all day downtown for the Butterfly Festival and parade. They had a free trolley car shuttle from town to Museum all day. Best small town museum I have ever visited. Besides all of the history there were live demos of Indian beadwork, tatting, wood carving, etc. Be sure... More

Chock full of local gold rush history and paraphernalia, there is so much to learn about California’s past. The staff was helpful and happy to answer our questions.

We visited this museum because the weather was too rainy to go to Yosemite NP. What a pleasant surprise. So much history tucked into this building! The staff was very knowledgeable and we learned a lot about the history of Mariposa. A lot of information-very educational and interesting!

All very professional and thoroughly captivating. A fine place... More

For a donation of $5 you get to view a lot of history about how things were for Indians and local culture. Lots of great exhibits. Plan to spend some time looking.

We were greeted by a very friendly and knowledgeable docent. The display are very informative, clean and arranged in great historical order. It was rainy so we didn't check out of the outside displays. Well worth the $5.00 suggested donation.

I enjoyed the museum it has a lot of cool mining artifacts. It is worth going to even if not open. Lots of cool stuff to see out front without going in the museum.
