The Malibu coastline is like a chameleon. In some areas it resembles the French Riviera with its lush, green hillsides descending into crescent-shaped shorelines. In others, it feels 100% Southern Californian with beaches wide and flat as a football field, and often crowded with beach-goers lounging on towels and playing volleyball. Other coastlines still feel secluded, tucked under tall cliffs and dotted with stunning rock formations. In certain areas, where the ocean waves are just right, surfers can be seen bobbing in the water. Up in the mountains to the east hikers take in truly stunning views of the ocean and the sprawling Los Angeles landscape. And along Pacific Coast Highway, restaurants are filled with visitors and locals from all walks of life. Stumble into the right place at the right time, and you’ll likely encounter a celebrity.

Great views of the ocean

Great stop for a quick walk down the pier. Lots of fisherman and surfers to watch. Free to visit (besides potential parking fee).

Great Place to Relax and People Watch
Apr 2021
At the Pier you can watch people fish, shop, dine, drink. There are plenty of benches so you can sit and watch the ocean or pedestrian traffic. This is a great place to kill an hour or two!

Nice night to visit pier. Liked
It better than Santa Monica. Restaurant better and less touristy. However Beach walking harder than Santa Barbara.

If you are going to Malibu, you must go to the Pier. It has magnificent views of the coast of Los Angeles and has great stores and restaurants. It is worth your time!

Discriminatory Staff.
Aug 2020
This past Sunday, August 23rd, I drove out early to fish for a couple hours on the Malibu Pier - a spot I have frequented for over 25 years, being a local. I pulled up at 9:15am - pretty early but it was a Sunday in Summer, so I anticipated some crowds. I pulled up to park in the Pier parking lot for $15 - a very fair price. There were roughly 30 vacant car spots, but the gate was blocked, and when I asked the attendant to let me in - he first waved me off and ignored me. Then I honked and got his attention, and he started yelling and screaming at me that they were full, and had to maintain capacity. I indicated there were ample empty spots, and he waved me off and ignored me. I found a spot down PCH and walked up to the pier, where I saw not 5 (five) minutes after I was there, the same attendant letting in ONE CAR AFTER THE OTHER - 10 or 20 cars freely pulling in. I could not believe my eyes. I was discriminated against. I approached the attendant and asked him to explain what had changed, and why he had aggressively and explicitly denied me the chance to pay $15 to park, but allowed everyone else. He was entirely caught off guard by my confronting him on his absolutely illegal and unkind behavior, and asked why he had discriminated against me? He just yelled and screamed at me, told me he chooses who does and does not park at the pier and that he was tired of seeing white people. I was truly gobsmacked, and just walked away. I am now preparing a lawsuit against the Malibu Pier and the parking service that manages the lot for illegal discriminatory practices.

I hope the attendant gets sacked, truly. Whoever he is - he is a disgusting, reckless individual unfit to represent Malibu, the Pier, and the community - just awful.

Nice views and experience at the Malibu beach
Jun 2020
Pier and restaurant was closed, but was able to walk out onto the beach and dip my feet into the Pacific Ocean on a beautiful day. People were definitely out on the beaches. Very nice area. Picturesque.

Picturesque and Pricey stop along the 101!
Mar 2020 • Family
Very picturesque and much more low key then the various Piers to the South. Breakfast was just “ok” at Malibu Farm but may have just been our selections. We enjoyed our brief stop here during our Pacific Coast Adventure. It does get pricey quickly though! Would probably skip on next 101 trip.

Uncrowded, but pricey
Feb 2020
We drove with my adult son and his young family to the Malibu pier to enjoy the President's Day holiday. While the pier and its restaurants and shop were good and interesting, the prices of everything from parking ($15) to a wooden, toy 6-inch pickup truck ($74) to the breakfast food (over $100 for 3 adults) were lofty. But, the ocean view and the half-hidden mansions on the hill beach-side were, indeed, spectacular. This pier is much more laid-back than either the Venice Beach or Santa Monica Piers and is worth a trip on a nice day.

Experiencing the ocean
Oct 2019
After beginning our day in Malibu at the marvellous Pepperdine University campus we took a bus back to the pier.

We enjoyed a relaxing pleasant amble to the end, revelling in the oceans views and gentle bustle. It’s a popular spot for fishing and hiring of boats.

Ample cafes and eateries are onboard and we enjoyed a coffee and cappuccino in one.

Beautiful setting and view, and food is good too
Jan 2020
Beautiful setting and view. We ate at the cafe part at the end of the pier. The food was very good, much better than you'd expect considering that it's such an obvious place for tourists etc. Our only complaint is that there were quite a few flies buzzing around when we were there. Otherwise 5 stars. And of course expect it to be very crowded at peak seasons and times.
