The Malibu coastline is like a chameleon. In some areas it resembles the French Riviera with its lush, green hillsides descending into crescent-shaped shorelines. In others, it feels 100% Southern Californian with beaches wide and flat as a football field, and often crowded with beach-goers lounging on towels and playing volleyball. Other coastlines still feel secluded, tucked under tall cliffs and dotted with stunning rock formations. In certain areas, where the ocean waves are just right, surfers can be seen bobbing in the water. Up in the mountains to the east hikers take in truly stunning views of the ocean and the sprawling Los Angeles landscape. And along Pacific Coast Highway, restaurants are filled with visitors and locals from all walks of life. Stumble into the right place at the right time, and you’ll likely encounter a celebrity.

Malibu Beach is exactly what you would expect: great sand, cooler water, a bit of waves, and great sun. If you haven't been, you wouldn't expect water on two sides (the lagoon and the ocean), and the natural park nearby. Just a fun place to go with friends or family to spend part of a day. You can park on the road, but we elect to pay the $$ per car ($$'s change by number of hours) to be a bit safe with our vehicle. GIve it a try; you gotta experience the Beach at Malibu!

Malibu Lagoon is gorgeous i December! It is peaceful with a variety of birds to watch and explore! It is everything nature has to offer! Water on two sides (the lagoon and the ocean), birds singing, mountains and sand. It was pleasantly cloudy today with lots of surfers out there.

Parking is easy to find. On a week day, it is $6 for almost the whole day . Many choose to park at the side of the road, but I prefer the safety of the parking lot. Safe environment! Mostly families and surfers.

We stopped by here on a Wednesday afternoon. We were able to find a parking spot by the lagoon.

We did a short walk around the area watching a variety of seabirds around the area. A lot of the bushes has flowers where we watch honey bees buzzing about.

It was a nice visit.

Trying to find parking at Malibu Lagoon was horrible. There was no street parking left and the paid lot was narrow and overfilled with cars and people. I got a spot in the lot but almost damaged my car and another person’s. The beach there is nice but they advice against swimming at present because of all the rain and bacteria in the water.

There are some big waves here which attract some serious surfers - it does also mean that if you sit down by the front, your belongings are liable to get the occasional drenching! There's also the lagoon round the side where the birds crowd, which is something else to look at. It's not as picturesque as other beaches, but there is more going on.

Beautiful beach with groups spread out along the water. Lots of people were playing in the water and body boarding as well. There's a quiet pier with some fishing.

Thirteen miles west of Santa Monica on the Pacific Coast Highway, this state beach is excellent. The day lots are open and it is really beautiful. Parking fees are required.
