Neighbourhood: Downtown
Downtown Los Angeles is a busy metropolis of towering buildings, bustling streets, and industrial warehouses. There is a distinct multiplicity of cultures here with a growing influx of business professionals and hipsters. Many call the evolution of Downtown over recent years gentrification. New lofts, bars, hotels and restaurants are popping up regularly. Downtown is home to some of the very best restaurants in the city leading the LA foodie scene, plus it is the location of cultural and sports venues including the Walt Disney Concert Hall, the Staples Center, and the Coliseum at the University of Southern California.

This is the center of downtown LA with the city hall and library, and now the big theaters. A redevelopment area that has matured.

This is the center of the old downtown which is being revived with the conversion of many old office buildings to apartments. So now lots of people are around, cafes and restaurants. Here you will find the iconic city hall building.

Next to the old financial and shopping center of downtown LA, you'll find a large collection of municipal buildings, performance centers and museums. A bit to congested with traffic.

Bunch of bureaucrats on a rat wheel. Mix in jurors walking around waiting to be dismissed from jury duty and the only building of interest is City Hall. Check to see if anything is being filmed, it is used as a stand in for locales around the world. The city is covering its upkeep by renting it out. If you do end up in the Civic Center find a way to the top of City Hall. On a clear day there is a great view. Redeeming factor is the view is free. Little Tokyo is nearby and the Disney Hall is at the top of the hill.

The best way to see the Civic Center area and downtown LA is from the 27th floor of the Los Angeles City Hall. Enter off of North Main Street, pass through security and take two elevators and a flight of stairs to the 27th floor. The outside terrace offers unobstructed 360 degree views of the area - very much worthwhile the time.

A cluster of civic buildings including the iconic Los Angeles City Hall. Lots of modern urban renewal around it. Not pedestrian friendly.

Lots and lots of traffic whizzing by some unimaginative buildings This area could be so much more and may be one day, but now, just traffic.

Civic Center area offered the interesting historical buildings and with quite nice surrounding. There is fountain here and the Chinatown is nearby but the shop we ate closed at 8.30 pm @ China town.

So many new restaurants, things to do, great shopping.....and don't limit yourself to just Nokia and Staples....although great...do love the Yard House for a libation. There are so many other ares that are enticing, the garment district is fun, and I love the Wooden Spoon for a terrific Sangria and Tapas as well as the up on the hill with the theatres and music hall, MOCA, China Town with a bite at Phillpe's. Really days of exploring is in order...and finish of a fun day with special dinner at the Perch, for a view of Pershing square that is right out of a magazine. Yes ! I could go on and on, my husband and I love exploring the city, it never disappoints!
