Windy hill is a nice dog friendly {On leash only} place to hike in Portola Valley. The trail runs from the parking lot on Alpine road all the way up to Skyline boulevard. There is about a 2 mile loop that I hike with my...More

It's about 5 miles up and 5 miles back. You can go through a forest or open woodland. It is better to go spring, fall and winter. Summers can be blazigly hot.

We prefer to start at the base, take the steep climb up and then meander down. We take the dog (allowed on leash) ... she loves the place. The uphill is exposed to the sun, so best done early.

Tremendous panoramic views you can enjoy on wide enough trails for hikers and equestrians. My favorite is the Windy Hills summit trail. A nearly 7 mile Roundtree that gains nearly 1500 feet. I would rate it difficult solely because the need for carrying your own...More

Windy Hill Open Space Preserve is one of those places that you can run, hike, bike and walk as long as you want. You don't have to be a superstar jock to manage the trails and dogs are welcome.

Windy Hill is one of the best hikes on the Peninsula. If you park at the bottom, you can walk up along a tree-covered path and then walk back down the exposed hillside. This is especially important in summer when it can get really hot....More
