Fun outing for family

There's lots of space to run around and explore. Still learning about history but not in an uptight museum setting. Beautiful grounds and buildings.

Stopped by on my way to Solvang. It was some special day, don't remember but they were reenacting mission life back in the 1800's. Making candles, shearing sheep, spinning wool, a blacksmith making nails, weaving a blanket, churning butter and making bread. All as it was done back in the "old mission days". They had tours of of the mission... More

We decided to stop by the mission and we're glad we did. What a great mission/museum. The grounds are fantastic, they have miles of trails and we had a great afternoon here!

Visited Sep 2007: Founded in 1787AD by Franciscan Padre Presidente Fermin Francisco Lasuen, Mision La Purisima Concepcion de Maria Santisima was the eleventh mission of the twenty-one Spanish Missions in California. By 1803AD, the Mission's Chumash population had increased to 1,436. In 1812AD, the mission was moved four miles east of the Lompoc pueblo to its present location after a... More

I have been to nearly all the missions in California. As an elementary school teacher in California, that was part of the curriculum. Since I have traveled all over the state of California, I made it a point to visit missions whenever possible. In my opinion, La Purism State Park is the best of all in terms of authenticity. It... Very well laid out museum and reconstructed mission. Well worth a stop in Lompoc. Easily spend a couple of hours here.

The history of the Spanish missions in California has always fascinated me. I've visited many and while this one is not as beautiful as some of the others, this is the biggest, most intact that I've seen. This one is a state park so it's operated a little differently than the others. It's nice that the State of California restored... More

This mission is a California State Park which offers a very detailed museum of artifacts and history of the mission. Very worthwhile and highly educational museum. Walking around the grounds gives one a sense of early lifestyles and living conditions in the mission; both religious, militarily and indigenous Chumash native indians.

I love this Mission! Very well maintained. The living history days are fun. Beautiful gardens, a true glimpse of the past.

Stop in the visitor center to understand what you will be seeing before going to the mission. A self guided tour map is available for $1.00. The site is 1800 Acres with 25 miles of hiking trails, but the main mission and out buildings can be seen in a loop about 1/2 mile. The church and residence building give you... More
