Took the drive up less than 48 hours after they opened the road up to the park gate June 2017. Many people are not interested in exploring if they can't get into the park as the area recovers from a heavy snow season and the...More

We took the Tioga Road/Pass from east to west, starting in Lee Vining coming from the great Mono Lake. End of October we were still lucky that the Tioga Road was open, some days later it they closed it due to snow. It is a...More

Beautiful scenic drive and we would recommend stops, to appreciate the scenery, at Ellery Lake, Tioga Lake, Tuolomne Meadows, Tenaya Lake and Olmsted Point. Amazingly we drove, in late May, from Death Valley, with a temperature of 98F, and just a few hours later we...More

Awesome road to drive. We made it through, airstream in tow, and was a little tense going from east to west. So we drove the whole thing again without the trailer so we could stop and enjoy the views. Awesome.

This entrance to Yosemite is breathtaking in every sense of the word, I live around 4000ft and laugh when people say that the drop off of our Gorge are really high, this made me put that into prospective. I will admit I got a little...More

This is the main road into Yosemite and over the Sierras and has quite beautiful views. You need to realize though that the road is closed in the winter due to snow.

Must travel this highway! Drove it to Yosemite! Many pull offs for pictures and breath taking views. Don't get in a hurry, very high drop offs!

Tioga road is not open all year round. Sometimes there are landslides that cause this road to be closed and when there is snow, they close the road down. Be prepared to make many stop overs for pictures when you pass this road. Amazing amazing...More

We arrived in Lee Vining in cloud and rain, and were concerned the either the Tioga Pass road would be closed, or so socked in that we wouldn't be able to see anything. However, the next day we awoke to perfect skies and crystal clear...More

The high pass roads are usually closed in November due to snow. Use the Big Oak flat entrance or the South entrance

No problem. The road surface is in excellent condition. Use pullouts to let cars behind you pass by.

We are planning to visit Yosemite in September, 2016. We are driving a Ford F150 with a small V8 from Lee Vining. I think the truck will be able to handle the grades but my wife is a little afraid of the steep drop offs near the edge of the road. Are there a lot of places where the cliffs are real close to the edge of the road? Are there pullouts to let people pass?
