You and your family and friends must see one of the finest Art festivals in the United States celebrating its 90th year.
You MUST SEE Festival of Art of Laguna Beach CELEBRATING ITS 90th year among the finest Juried Art shows in the United States. Laguna's phenomenal two months of art shows and the stunning Pageant of the Masters is now open. If you visit southern California don't miss the festival it is epic. While in Laguna the best dinning includes Terra on the festival grounds, Sapphire and Lumberyard. Use the Trolly to get around town. Park just out of down town and save your money for fun.

    Always a Wonderful Experience
My wife drug me to one of these shows about 12 years ago. We have been going ever since, I am still in awe every time. The transformation of people into works of art is pretty dang amazing. Tips, go early, park your car, walk around town, get something to eat or go to the park area with your own snacks and drinks (Yes they will allow you to bring wine into the venue) Bring binoculars, bring a seat cushion if your but can't stand sitting for a long time, check the temps and bring a blanket or light jacket as it can get chilly. Get LOGE tickets if you can afford them, don't sit in the first three or 4 rows as it's too close to appreciate the art on stage at that range and you will miss some things that happen on the sides of the stage. Don't show up late and try to find your seats, it will frustrate you and really irritate those who have to be interrupted in the opening moments of this great show.

    Creativity at its Best
We experienced a Pageant of the Masters performance a number of years ago and I thought it couldn't get any better. I was wrong. This year's performance set a new bar. Brilliant production, fabulous music, sets, costumes, and volunteer actors! There is not one bad seat in the audience.

    Art History and Pageantry
I have come to the Pageant of the Masters/Festival of the Arts for years and became a member because I believe in what they do. Each year I bring family and friends, get a VRBO and enjoy! Over the years I have loved the history I learn about art pieces....last year I got the full scoop on Nellie Bly! I loved it all. We come and bring wine and a charcuterie and enjoy the live music. Then we enter the theater which is always magical with the stage, full orchestra and narrator. The 1 st time I ever came, the narrator was the voice of "Tony the Tiger". What fun! I appreciate all the artists and those in the pageant. It is a special time each year.

Disappointing this year over prior years
This was our fourth or fifth year to come to this production. Unfortunately this year didn’t measure up to our previous experiences. The extent to which the artwork pieces ‘came to life’ was much reduced over previous years. We love pieces like when the lady with the parasol moved/came to life near the end of that selection. The ‘oh….ah…’ across the audience is audible in those great scenes. There wasn’t enough of that this year. We felt the entire production was not up to the level of previous years. Artwork selection, music selection, movement in the artwork - all lacking. We’ll come again, hoping the quality returns to what we have experienced in years past. If not, we’ll hold on to fond memories from the past.

    Excellent program, seating needs improvement
We go to the Pageant every summer. The production is excellent and there is always a new twist every year. Snack bar is mediocre but you can probably find something you like. Only complaint is the seating. The seats are metal old-style theatre seats which is ok since the Pageant is outdoors. The problem is they are too small so you’re elbow to elbow with your neighbor, and you have to stand up to let someone pass.

We have been members for 25 years and have attended the annual event each year. The remodeled venue is very nice and the art vendors did not disappoint. That is where it ended in 2023.

This 2023 show was nothing more than a mainstream media spectacle of the minority of political opinions. It was all about addressing every item on the political agenda. It was absolutely atrocious, distasteful, and frankly shocking.

Art is about expression. In this venue the show primarily highlights paintings and sculptures from all around the world from century old artists of every ethnic background and culture to more recent artists using live models, beautifully designed sets and magnificent lighting.

In all of our years as members, donators and paying guests, we have never been more disappointed or shocked. We had brought guests with us to attend, as we do each year and this show was a complete embarrassment to the organization, community, donors, members and guests. When art becomes nothing more than a spectacle to put checks in a box for unpopular views because of mainstream bullying, it is no longer art. It’s a comedic side show and not worth a penny to be part of.

Absolutely one of the worst experiences I've had for a Halloween themed event, EVER. Paid 25 per adult and 10 per child plus a 20 dollar service charge weeks in advance for the "Pageant of the Monsters" at this venue. Here is it:

1. They over sold the event. This resulted in huge crowds, lines, and long waits. I'm talking Disneyland-like lines. It opened at 6 pm and admission to the "maze" inside was to begin at 6:45. You are instructed to "visit the side-shows" while you wait for your tour time for the maze (more on that later). Anyway, we arrived at 6 pm and the line to get in snaked along the street. When we finally got to the gate, are very rude staff member scanned our 4 tickets and we received our "fast pass" which was not a fast pass at all. It had a time of 8:25 to enter the maze!

2. Rude and totally inept ushers and staff. Many of the staff are older and not patient at all. When you have a venue with crowds and paying customers to direct, it helps if the staff do not add to the exasperation. There didn't seem to be anybody who was responding to the chaos of the crowds with patience and organization. Instead, the staff attitude just added fuel to the fire.

3. Rude adults. This is supposed to be a family friendly event. I brought my two sons, 8 and 13. After waiting 45 minutes in the "Alien Autopsy" side show, we made it to the tent with the autopsy. We were ushered in at the back end of the group. Probably about 30 adults in front of us at the autopsy table where everyone was directed to learn forward and get a good look. The staff member who ushered us in stated several times to let the children to the front of the group as they are "vertically challenged". OK so at least he gave it a try. Well, after 3 attempts the staff member left us and none, not a single freaking one of the adults in front, would move to allow the kids to view the table.

4. Imaginary "lines" on the ground? After the issue with the adults at the Alien Autopsy, we left the area and asked the staff member if we could go with the next group so we could get a better position to view the display. He rolled his eyes and asked me to step past the line. I looked down and saw no line...no line, no sign, no roped area...nothing indicating a division between us and anything. At this point staff are letting the next group rush in and it's a total mess. We just left.

5. What was left to do? The other side shows and services were hard to locate due to the crowds. There were lines all over, but for what? The signage indicating the entrance to each show was done by hand in ink on white paper. People kept asking what each line was for. A total mess, organizationally.

6. Maze be damned. At this point we still had an hour and a half to wait and enter the maze, which was the whole point of coming. The lines for popcorn, refreshments, and other "side shows" were ridiculous. It's very sad that the venue placed revenue over a quality family experience. I will never attend Pageant of the Masters/Monsters ever again. Total ripoff and cash grab. I was so pissed I threw the tickets for the 8:25 entry to the maze on the ground and left to go home and carve pumpkins. It was only 7 PM. Pageants, go eff yourselves.

This show was nothing like that of years passed.
The backdrops looked like small cheaply made posters or ads. Fewer live actors were used - Fewer still interacted with audience /walked out of art. Left close to last act
* If this is your first time you’ll think it’s awesome.
* The singers were amazing

Very disappointing. Left at intermission. Attended 2 years ago and loved it. The format change with singers and dancers and even a boat that moves across the stage seemed very cheesy. Go back to the original format of living art. It's great when they "take you behind the scenes" and show how a "painting " is constructed. It's also great when someone deliberately moves at the end of a scene. However in 2023 they turned the festival into sort of a variety show. Terrible overall. Go back to the original approach.

Over the years, the Pageant of the Masters has had terrific themes and beautiful presentations of quality and gorgeous art exhibiting paintings by Masters. The past two years the show's appeal has plummeted in its choice of both art, and the poor musical numbers (2022) that I felt had little to do with the Pageant and art. This year, we saw mural art of L.A. that wasn't much above graffiti, as well as a Laguna artist which was mostly unknown and had little appeal. It didn't really seem like the theme of "Art Colony" was followed in a way that was appealing to the Pageant's audience. After two disappointing years (following many good ones in the past), I won't be back.

First time for us at the Pageant and Art Show. We got discount (25% off) tix from the official site a couple days in advance. We were in the back for $40 or so each, PLUS TEN DOLLARS EACH PROCESSING, which is kind of cra&&y.

Bring Binoculars if you want to see the people in the art and you aren't up front. They do present dozens of famous and less famous works of art with local actors/models/volunteers taking the place of the figures in the works. If you are far away sometimes you can't tell what is live and what isn't as They Just Don't Move A Muscle. A couple pieces called for the actors to do a little moving and that was fun. Would be nice if they had a "how we do it" video you could watch and maybe a piece you could walk up to to see the tricks.

Show started at 8:30, intermission was at 9:40 and resumed at 9:55 and ended at 10:30. It gets a bit chilly there, so bring a jacket. The art show was well presented with many different genres, and most of the artists were there on a Friday night
