At this highest point for many miles, the views of San Diego and the coast are impressive. This free private military memorial features a large white cross and hundreds of plaques commemorating the military service of veterans from many wars, with heartwarming photos and epitaphs. It's outside, so always open. Well worth the short drive.

Topped by a cross swept up in legal battles for decades Mount Soledad is the highest point within the city limits of San Diego. It is located in La Jolla north of Downtown. The cross sits on a small patch of land at the top of the "mountain" in an area designated as a Veterans Memorial. This land is owned... More

I was recommend to go here by my brother who had previously lived in La Jolla. I was shocked at how far we could see.my kids could see downtown San Diego to the south and see gliders going off the cliffs by Torrey Pines to the North!

When friends from out of town visit we love to take them to the top of Mt. Soledad in La Jolla and Mt. Helix in La Mesa. It gives them a sense of the city and county that nothing else can. Your friends will appreciate it and a visit will remind you of the beautiful community in which you live.

Folks were smart putting up all the veteran plaques to keep the cross intact up there. The monument is beautiful but the views are breathtaking. A must see if you come to San Diego ever!

One of the best views of San Diego city and the bays. Great memorial cross with lots of historical significance. The atheists have been fighting in court for 20 years to take down the cross. So far so good! A must see in San Diego

The first and best thing to say about Mt. Soledad is that it is 822 feet above the rest of San Diego. Mt. Helix in La Mesa may be higher, but it is too far out in East County to hold the commanding coastal vistas that this elevated piece of La Jolla real estate offers. The view is spectacular in...
