Played the South course. It was great, but the whack you on the green fees, and a 45 dollar booking fee per golfer. That said it was very nice.

They don't answer phones! Don't care about the public needs, no help what so ever! A municipal city course that only caters to the wealthy! F this place! O rating across the board!

It is extremely disappointing to find out Torrey Pines Golf Course does not honor their military discount for active-duty Army National Guard Soldiers, who have been protecting our country for almost a year, because the Pro Shop staff do not consider them to be on a real deployment since they serve under the Army National Guard.
Last time I checked, regardless of what military branch a person chooses to serve in or where they’re deployed too, these individuals made an oath to their country to serve and protect regardless of where they are mobilized.
I guess since these Army National Guard Soldiers, who have been away from their home and families for almost a year, serving to protect our freedom, don’t get to be called real Soldiers because they chose to protect their homeland and don’t get to partake in the golf courses military discount, even though they were told on the phone when making the reservation, on more than one occasion, they would receive the discounted rate.
I sure do hope the individual(s) who worked in the Pro Shop yesterday, think about the amount of disrespect they gave to those individuals, as these currently deployed Soldiers have far more respect and dignity than the person who checked them in. These Soldiers ended up paying the full non-resident rate, as they drove several hours to take a break from their military duties for some well-deserved R&R.

I once overheard a manager say there will never be any blacks or women managers whiles he's around. I went after him to his face and it backfired royally. The dude made up a story about me even though he knew the details months earlier to cover for himself in case I filed a complaint.
Now my friends have to make the tee times because they banned me for a made-up false story, true story.
There's a damn good reason the USGA will never hold another US Open at this golf course, the corruption. Besides, it's one of the most overrated courses I have ever played and 6-hour rounds.

I'll begin by saying that I was excited about the prospect of being able to play on this course. Making reservations well in advance is a requirement and the anticipation of playing continued to build up until the day. Along with a group of 15 others, the scenery is nothing less than spectacular. Unfortunately, this is all you get when playing here.

We went on a Monday with the tee time being at 12:30. Tee times are spread out every 10 minutes - which you would think that pace of play should/would apply to the $225 green fees. This was not the case.

Beginning on hole 3, things began to take a turn, with wait times extending into 5-10 minutes for each shot.

By hole 15, I have had enough. I had asked the beverage attendant where the Marshalls were and noted that we had been playing for close to 4 and a half hours with another 4 holes to play. The response was, "we have no Marshalls today, but look at this view!"

Our team along with the others played 16 and left as we closed in on 5 hours.

Ridiculous pace of play for the price you pay.

My recommendation would be to set tee times 15 minutes apart and marshal the course. Outside of this, which I know that there will not be a response from the staff given that they seemed not to care about patron experience, don't go. I'll never go back and the same applies to the 15 other guys that decided to go.

Attended Torrey Pines and played the South Course in early March, fortunately the rough had been cut a little, although still very hard to get out of. Course was in good condition and the greens were running quick. The staff in the Pro Shop were really helpful and friendly, definitely a place to visit if you are in San Diego. A great experience overall, will be back at some time.

Played the North course, 2x, in early January. Perfect conditions with the rough grown long and over-seeded due to the upcoming Farmers open. I always play this course in early January and conditions are perfect (as opposed to some of the summer reviews). They go to CPO in January to prepare for the PGA event so walking is your best choice (walking cart is $10)

Prices have gone WAY up on the last few years, with a $40 booking fee and $40 more per person if you use a cart.... all for non - residents, then taxes but it's worth it for the views, course conditions and it's "Torrey". Weekend prices start on Fridays.

Some Hints:
1. Walk if you can.... especially if CPO
2. I always get on within one hour, as a single, even without a reservation if you show up in the early AM. I was told by locals that even showing up as a two-some you will get on.
3. The North is a great course... and much better value than the south (2x more expensive). Still awesome views.
4. Have a meal/drink at the Torrey Pines Grille... stunning views, fire pits and great food as a soft landing for your day at Torrey. Serves breakfast, lunch and dinner
5. Warm up area is minimal and small
6. Bring your camera
7. Course is very playable for average golfers.. but you will lose balls in the rough!
8. Take a stroll through the Torrey Pines Lodge... wonderful and interesting example of arts and craft design with historical pictures throughout.

We played the North course first (thank goodness) -- it was in horrible shape. We played on a Saturday - so expect there to be a lot of players -- but there were FOUR foursomes waiting on a par 3. Took us 6 1/2 hours to play. Ridiculous. We played the South course the next day. In much better shape -- took only 6 hours - but seemed like we played along. Played both courses once -- would not come back.
Golf course staff is another story.....totally underwhelmed to the point of -- sorry to bother you. When you are playing a supposed "top" course -- I would expect that the golf staff (there were 2 of them and no one else waiting to golf) -to put your clubs on the cart? Not stand around while you do it? On the South course -- there was a person sitting in a booth. No -- thanks for coming -- letting us know about hole placement etc.... Clubhouse personnel were about the same -- just too busy to help (not that they were doing anything). Its not that they were unpleasant -- they just didnt care. Again -- rated as a "top" golf course - at a premium price -- I expect the service.

Pitiful conditions considering. Not a resident card holder anymore so I'm happy I didn't have to pay the outrageous green fees thanks to a customer that wanted my guildance and experience. Been playing here for over 30 years and have never seen so many bad spots on this course since they redesigned it, again. No wonder the USGA said it will never return. 5 hours and 50 minutes to play golf is no fun either. It is time the city allowed a professional company to manage this course instead of the unprofessional types there now.

Besides being an ultimate golf destination, kudos to Annie and Gen in the office for making the renewal of a resident's card easy and stressless. We had tried to renew online ourselves, but we were frustrated and were unable to do so. We went to the main Torrey Pines office and these two ladies turned it into a delightful experience making Torrey Pines Golf the complete package!
