I wouldn't say this is a "must see." We went on a rainy day where there were barely any other visitors, which made it easy to take photos of the falls. The walk from the entrance to the falls is no more than a 10-15 minute walk. Taking photos at the falls itself will take no more than 10 minutes, so basically this is a 30-40 minute itinerary at the maximum. It's a good stop-off, but I wouldn't make it your reason to come to Karuizawa!

Shiraito Falls is definitely a must-see when you visit Karuizawa. It is a popular spot and crowded. The waterfall is wide. Really beautiful place. Whether tired from the long drive or healed by the waterfall I already wanted to take a nap...

Shiraito Falls is one of the most famous and beautiful waterfalls in Japan. Access to these waterfalls, which are about 150 meters wide and more than 30 meters high, is possible by walking for about 15 minutes. This waterfall is located on the path of the Shiba River and in a green valley. Due to the touristic nature of this place, a number of restaurants and souvenir shops have been built on the way to the waterfall. Otodome waterfall is located in another branch of this river, and although it is much fuller and higher, but because it is more difficult to access, it has received less attention. These two waterfalls are located in the Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park and were added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2013. Allow at least two hours to visit these two waterfalls.

This is a decent medium level hike through the forest. Nice track and reasonable elevation but with enough switches and path to not really fee the effects. We started near the old Mikasa Hotel with the entrance at the Shiraito Highway Kose Toll Booth (path on the right side if you are looking at the toll booth). Dragon Falls was decent and given it was March we had the place to ourselves. Actually met only one hiker in 10K. Further trek on to Shiraito Falls which was well marked and good track except for about one k that had snow/ice and was a bit difficult to navigate. Did not continue on from the Falls to the tea house, another 2 k or so as the path looked icy as well. The falls are smaller than you see in pictures but very unique in terms of how expansive they are in terms width not height. Bus stop at the falls although buses only come less than once every hour so we called a taxi back to Karuizawa.

Take the bus from Karuizawa station which accepts coins (I think you can change 1000 yen into coins at the machine near the driver). The trip takes about half an hour or thereabouts. You won't need more than 10-15 minutes at the falls.

A very interesting waterfall. The usual waterfalls are just a stream of water but this is a curtain of waterfalls that seem to come out from the soil. It says that the water that comes out from the soil is rain water from 6 years ago.

Came here as a stopover from our way down from Kusatsu to Karuizawa. The drive into this place is nice and beautifully lined with autumn leaves. Very nice view when you are visiting during the autumn periods. The walk into the falls is also light and easy for older people. Parking along the road beside the falls is easy but be careful not to run over the bus load of tourists.

Stunning waterfall in a beautiful environment, a short walk from an extensive car park. A little bit of an anticlimax once you see it, however, well worth a visit.

The waterfall is well maintained by the workers of the park. the height of the fall may be not what you expecting but i was surprised to find out that the water is coming from the soils around. Worth visiting.
